PET FOOD
« Reply #80 on: November 14, 2016, 07:00:55 PM »
Okay, now don't freak out...

Having grown up in the States, i've always heard of people eating pet food since it's all they can afford. Now, i've never given it much thought, but since i've started looking into calories and dieting, i'm going to look into it.

Last month when i got paid [my 750 euros; talking October 2016 here], i decided to take advantage of a sale at the local supermarket and bought a bunch of cans of tuna and spam plus 2 cheeses. Besides rice it's kinda all i have in the house. I get food every day from a friend so i eat fine, but i've also been on this diet [down 3kg so far  :D] to lose these extra 20 pounds i was lugging along (that mean i'm wasting energy and can't carry 20 pounds of supplies instead).
Because of my diet i've been focusing on eating proteins. Now, that generally works out alright, but there are moments that i would 'kill' for some carbs!

Anyway, so i learned that when i count the calories of the tuna, spam and cheese in relation to what i paid for them, it works out like this:
- tuna: 200
- cheese: 300
- spam: 600 [!]
[To be fair, the count of calories in a tin of tuna could be so low because the calories of the sunflower oil it's in aren't taken into account. (Of course i buy tuna in oil, since then i can either put a wick in it and burn it or my body burns it.)]

So now i'm thinking pet food; i'm going to start looking into the calorie-price ratio.
Why consider pet food? Well, i don't need to eat it now AND I WON'T EAT UP MY SURVIVAL FOOD if it's pet food, so there's also that to consider.
I'll just be sure to also buy in some of that cheap honey. Hey, didn't John the Baptist survive on locusts and honey? I'm kinda getting that now.
