Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre

TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION BULLETIN
Issued at 11:11pm EST on Monday the 15th of March 2010

At 10 pm EST Monday, Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului [Category 4] with central
pressure 940 hPa was located
over the north-east Coral Sea near latitude 13.1 south longitude 158.7 east,
which is about 1350 km northeast of Mackay.

The cyclone is moving west at about 9 kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului poses no immediate threat to the Queensland coast
and is expected to remain well off the Queensland coast for at least the next

Huge hail storm hits Perth, Australia with flooding and mudslides, (video)

A hail storm struck Perth, Australia, the largest city on the southwestern corner of Australia, Tuesday causing massive power outages, flooding, and mudslides.  Some locals are saying it's the worst storm to hit the region since 1994.  The roof collapsed in one hospitals ER causing 20 patients to be moved.  This has been the driest southern hemisphere summer on record in the Perth area and forecasters are predicting more rain in the coming days.  The rain will do little to ease the drought conditions, but with winter approaching in 'the land down under,' locals are hoping for a wet winter.  AP reports wind gusts of 75 mph and commuter and airport traffic being at a near stand still.  If you are flying into the area in the next few days, be sure and check with your air carrier and hotel to see if conditions have improved.

Note: This news story said no reports as of yet on casualties. One reported so far:
Young lifeguard in a training demonstration
drowned as waves picked up, when Uluui was affecting surf conditions.
Update, maybe he was in a surf boat competition, at any rate a 19 yr old competitior died.

Lori, was your storm like that? Wow that is sort of freakish.
I felt our little hailstorm was very intense and very odd, due to the time of
year in Florida, and it is almost spring break week, but it wasn't golfball -
sized here.

Lori - that was interesting!! Sometime, just for fun you should post your own video here or you
could send it to me.
Our Spring Equinox storm had hailstones about 3/4 of an inch in diameter - it
was very intense and very fast - over in about ten minutes. Really surprising.
