HYBRASIL - also known as Brasil - mythical island
« on: July 10, 2014, 06:47:10 AM »
HY all. I posted some info about HYBRASIL in the Atlantis Topic.
I feel this place deserves a Topic here - in Humanity's Deep History.
Posting again a map which is part of the Wikipedia article. In 1572 a map was made of this island.

That would be great to find it. One would think diving crews would have been down there a lot. (?)I'm wondering it is (or was up to a couple hundred years ago) just a remnant of the land that was once Atlantis...

That was the first thing I thought too, but I thought it said it was off the coast of Ireland.  I think it was Plato who said Atlantis was beyond the pillars of Hercules and everyone thought it was beyond Gibraltar, which I think put it more in the middle of the Atlantic.  But I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

@ http://map.openseamap.org/ , make sure to click option VIEW, Marine Profile, you'll see that the depth of the Atlantic Ocean around Europe is only about 50m for an immense area.

In the book The Land of No Horizon father and son Taylor make clear what happened: when the Hollow Earth and the surface world were connected the Great Deluge occured [Noah's Flood]; there was more water pressure in Hollow Earth and sea levels on the surface went up by a great deal.
If you view a global map on sea level, you'll notice an area around the continents that used to be where they ended and the sea began. This area is the most impressive around the UK (to the Bay of Biscay).

Sources vary but Noah's Flood might have happened around 9,500 B.C. Before then, global coasts were different and went out farther into the world's oceans.
