Yowbarb Note: I don't know the reason behind this story, whether the whale is a new mutation or perhaps the last of his kind. Scientists believe this unfortunate beast has not received a reply to his calls his entire life. Makes me wonder if his own mother answered his calls. Just a thought, it seems to me without some communication back and forth in his early days he would not have survived. Surely his mother made the same calls and has now passed away... Worth investigating. There is a kickstarter project link below for the people wanting to tell the whale's story in a film.

The actor Adrian Grenier, the filmmaker Josh Zeman and a determined team have been laying the groundwork for an expedition and documentary seeking a remarkable elusive and seemingly unique whale, which has been heard roaming the Pacific since the early 1990s but never seen -- and never responded to by other whales.

The whale was first heard on Navy listening devices dating from the Cold War. Its voice is at a frequency -- 52 hertz -- unlike that of other great whales. It is thought to be a hybrid of the blue and fin species, but nobody knows, until it is tracked and studied.

The film team has a Kickstarter campaign under way to help fundraise and "friendraise," says Grenier. Learn more, or help out, at the following links:
