Slow Cooking for Survival with a Thermos Bottle

Stainless Steel Thermos bottles are plentiful and inexpensive ($5 or less) at garage sales and thrift stores.

You can put together a soup or stew with whatever food you have on hand.  Use appropriate spices for taste.  Mother Earth News had an excellent chart of spices and applications .... search their index.

Bring it to a boil and then pour it into a thermos bottle or two for it to slow cook until lunch time.  Give it at least a four hour head start.

It is cheap, simple, portable and it will eek out a little food a long way.
