Worst flood hits northern Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO (Xinhua) – The Brazilian state of Roraima, in the country's northern region, is facing the worst flood since 1976, local authorities said on Monday.

The level of the Branco River rose 10.02 meters, surpassing the 9.8-meter level in 1976, isolated several areas and flooded 80 percent of the neighborhoods in Roraima's capital city Boa Vista. It also blocked main federal highways in the state.

Authorities declared state of emergency in almost all municipalities of Roraima. Governor Jose de Anchieta declared public calamity in the state on Sunday.

The governor requested help from the armed forces and traveled to Brazilian capital Brasilia for federal help. He will meet with National Integration Minister Fernando Bezerra de Souza.

Over 400 people had to leave their homes and schools in the affected areas suspended activities, leaving 25,000 children without classes. According to Colonel Kleber Gomes from the local Civil Defense services, the isolated municipalities still have supplies for some weeks, but after that, they will need help.

June 10, 2011 – NAMIBIA – Reports and photographs of the snowfall circulated rapidly and widely across the Internet and inboxes bulged with rare images depicting snow in areas usually associated with heat and dust, not biting cold and white blankets of snow.

John Rabie from Namibgrens Guest Farm close to the Spreetshoogte Pass where the majority of snow and rain fell, described the scenes of low clouds, mist and snow on Tuesday. It was ice cold, especially as the wind was blowing,” he said. The snow fell during the day, from around eleven in the morning until the afternoon. He said the minimum temperature on Tuesday was minus two degrees Celsius, while the day’s maximum temperature did not go above five degrees.

Although the temperatures had not improved by yesterday, the absence of wind took away the worst bite of the cold, he said. “We lost one lamb,” he said. He attributed the low number of stock losses to the fact that the wind had died down from Tuesday to Wednesday. According to the Namibia Weather Network website, Tuesday’s cold was one for the record books. The website reported that Windhoek had its lowest average day temperature in at least ten years on Tuesday.

Added note :

According to namibiaweather.info, the lowest temperature recorded by weather stations on Tuesday was minus 7,8 degrees just south of Waterberg in the Otjozondjupa Region.
The Namibia Meteorological Service reported yesterday that temperatures sank to below zero in several parts of Namibia on Tuesday.
-7°C can somebody explain how can that be possible in AFRICA, in a desertic region ?

Good Question about how can that be possible in AFRICA, in a desertic region ? Of course we all know that
weather can go to an extreme but nevertheless this is still odd.
Here is what the normal temps should be in Namibia.

For June it is supposed to be around the area of 47F or 8C. And an average Rainfall of 0" :)
Will be interesting to see if this area of the world begins to get Rainfall or perception above the norm.
Ancient Prophecy appears to be fulfilled in the Nightly News.

It seems that a new season of floods has started in Brazil, from the northeast to the southern most parts of the country.

Today the worst has been reported from the south. The images below represent the rain water that fell on the lowlands. More water that fell on the highlands are coming down and are due ito arrive in these lowlands in the next 48 hours. Some evacuation is in progress as I write this.

Stay safe Carlos !!!!!!!

Thanks Susan !

This is happening away from me or even Boris.

However, I just came to realize that I have been with Daisy (in 2009) to at least one of those places shown in the pictures. It is called "Igrejinha" (or Little Church) and it is well known for their high quality women shoes from the very expensive to everyday usage (that was the reason we stopped by....  ;D )  I believe the intense industrial production of that area came to almost a complete halt.

Carluccio, my friend, the weather is very extreme there. And today, on RSOE, it lists a snowstorm in Chile as a disaster.

Intense droughts and extreme dry air in the center of Brazil and rainy and cold weather in the south, adding up to this year´s crazy weather. Weather weirdness seems to escalate each month....

Floods in the "Beer Town" where October Fest is held every year. Would it happen this time ??

Clif did mention on the show Tuesday that winter would be bad this year... So we best be getting ready for it sooner rather than later now since it is October already.

Philippines recovers after Typhoons Nesat and Nalgae

2 October 2011 Last updated at 03:21 ET

Rescuers are scrambling to reach people who have been stranded for days on their rooftops following two typhoons in a week.

The authorities are still trying to evacuate people amid a threat of further flash floods and landslides in the aftermath of typhoon Nalgae.

At least 52 people were killed and thousands made homeless after Typhoon Nesat hit the country on Tuesday.

Nalgae has followed the same route, killing at least three people.

The death toll is expected to rise following Nalgae's six-hour rampage on Saturday across areas of the main Luzon island already waterlogged by Nesat.

Nalgae has now moved into the South China Sea and is heading towards southern China with winds of 81mph (130k/ph) and gusts of 99mph (160k/ph).

At least 105 people have perished in the flooding in Cambodia; more than 170 in Thailand.

Death-toll from flooding in Cambodia exceeds 100
Posted on October 1, 2011 The Extinction Protocol

October 1, 2011 – PHNOM PENH – More than 100 Cambodians, nearly half of them children, have died in the country’s worst
flooding in a decade, a disaster official said Thursday. Heavy rainfall, which has also caused the Mekong river to overflow, has
killed at least 105 people, including 47 children, since mid-August, spokesman Keo Vy of the National Committee for Disaster Management told AFP. Tens of thousands of hectares (acres) of rice paddies have been inundated and more than 17,000
families had to be evacuated to higher ground in 12 provinces across the country, he added. “The damage is very serious this
year,” said Keo Vy, noting that it was surpassed only by the floods that occurred during the rainy season in 2000, when more
than 340 people were killed. Nearly 200 tourists, including foreigners, were airlifted from Cambodia’s famed Angkor temple
complex last week after a road to one of the ruins was cut off by flash floods.
In neighboring Thailand, almost two months of severe flooding have left more than 170 people dead.
