Former ricin suspect happy with vindication as probe continues
From Bill Mears. Chris Cuomo and Ed Payne, CNN

updated 11:01 AM EDT, Wed April 24, 2013

(CNN) -- Did someone try to frame Elvis impersonator Paul Kevin Curtis by sending ricin-tainted letters to President Barack Obama and other officials?

That's the question investigators are trying to answer now that federal prosecutors have dropped charges against Curtis, a law enforcement source told CNN on the condition of anonymity.

Reports in numerous media outlets have indicated a second home has been searched in connection with the investigation, and CNN reporters have visited a Tupelo, Mississippi, house where FBI investigators wearing hazardous materials suits have conducted a search.

However, CNN is not identifying the homeowner because federal authorities have not linked the owner to the ricin investigation.

CNN Explains: Ricin
Prosecutors initially charged Curtis April 17 with sending a threat to the president after letters containing a suspicious powder triggered security scares around Washington. Authorities dropped the charges Tuesday after new information became available, U.S. Attorney Felicia Adams said.

Curtis' attorney, Christi McCoy, said her client has been framed by someone who used several phrases Curtis likes to use on social media.

The letters read, in part: "To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance."

They were signed "I am KC and I approve this message," a source told CNN.

Each letter had a Memphis, Tennessee, postmark and no return address.

Curtis called his arrest surreal.

"It's like a train has been lifted off my shoulders," Curtis told CNN's "Piers Morgan Live" on Tuesday. "I'm overwhelmed. I'm extremely happy to be vindicated and out and able to see my kids."

The letters -- sent to Obama; Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi; and Sadie Holland, a Justice Court judge in Lee County, Mississippi -- touched off anxieties in Washington and elsewhere in the wake of the bombing of the Boston Marathon. The two incidents were unconnected, officials said.

The FBI said the letters tested positive for ricin, a toxin derived from castor beans that has no known antidote. No illnesses have been reported.

A false tweet heard around the web

CNN Political Unit

(CNN) – A tweet by the nation’s largest newswire about a catastrophe at the White House was nearly immediately shot down as false on Tuesday.

The Associated Press message read, "Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."

The group Syrian Electronic Army, behind previous hacks of the BBC and CBS News, claimed responsibility for the false message on its website.
While some took the post seriously, other Twitter users seemed to recognize the message as false almost immediately. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped sharply on the news however, though quickly regained its losses when the report was deemed false.

At the daily White House briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney noted the president was fine.

"I was just with him," Carney added.

The AP's White House Correspondent Julie Pace also noted the tweet was the result of a hacked account.

"It appears as though AP's Twitter account has been hacked, so anything that was just sent out about any incident at the White House is obviously false," she said.

The official AP Twitter account, @AP, was listed as "suspended" on the social media site soon after the erroneous Tweet was sent.

Multiple news organizations and reporters have dealt with hackers on Twitter in the past, including CBS

Online Fundraising Raises Fast Money for Boston Bombing Victims

By GILLIAN MOHNEY
April 21, 2013

The recovery process for many victims of the Boston Marathon bombing will be slow, arduous and expensive. Numerous victims suffered severe injuries to their lower limbs, with multiple patients having one or more amputations.

But the victims will not be without financial help as they recover.

The public outpouring of support to Boston after the bombings has also translated monetarily in millions in donations for victims. More than $10 million has already been raised for the victims and their families through the One Fund Boston. More than a million dollars more has been rasied through individual online fundraising sites for victims.

The creation of the One Fund Boston was announced Tuesday by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. The fund is designed to streamline donations into one account, which will then be divvied up to victims and their families

Note from Yowbarb from CNN TV news - paraphrased:

May 22 in England a home grown Muslim extremist of African heritage hacked an English soldier to death on the street with a machete and filmed himself issuing a statement. It was not thought at that time he belonged to any major organization.

You have to pay for a membership apparently but you can sign up for a free 72 hour one.
Note: Not every flashing symbol on the live map is a proven incident of terrorism. The map includes suspicious events with dams, trains etc. and bomb scares, anthrax and hoax bomb scares etc. Lots going on, though...shootings...
