Posting a few images here.
Notes will follow. If you have any problem pausing starting rewinding or advancing just clock the orange bar at the bottom of the video. You can manually advance the dot on the time bar. I had to figure it ot trial and error because the time bar does not display. Lots of people posted comments about this and I replied to them. You can post a comment and the video will stop and go to the beginning. You do NOT have to start all over. Click the orange bar at bottom of video and manually advance the time. Sometimes the orange bar is not there obscuring the time bar. I think the show producers might have fixed that.  ;)

How To Grow All Your Own Food, Without Irrigation… Even If You Live In A Dry Climate

A little earlier in the video Paul discusses the mycelium. Not sure I posted that. The web of fungus called the mycelium needs sugar from plants. In change fir this it helps bring water and nutrients to plants, as part of the polyculture. (Growing a variety of plants trees and bushes all together.)
.............................................

In his video presented today, as part of the Survival Summit, Paul Wheaton discusses importance of planting trees, brush as part of hugelkulture.

biochar basics

5 ways to make biochar work
If you don't know what biochar is [terra preta, etc.], the above vid also links to other vids about it.
This is definately worth your time!

Activate biochar through 5 ways [or all 5...]:
1. mixing it with grass clippings [1:1] [leave for a few months]
2. mix with worm castings [1:1] (then add some flour or so) [leave for about 2 weeks]
3. add to chicken coop. This is similar to chicken poop on wood chips [i.e. nitrogen + carbon] [leave for a year]
4. pee on it [i.e. adding nitrogen]
5. 4 (parts) biochar, 1 rockdust, 1 worm castings + 0.5 flour (or some such); mix and leave for at least 2 weeks

One of the most interesting bits in the above video is the results of an experiment containing 80% biochar...
This means that 50% is certainly safe, especially if properly activated (which is what this vid is all about).

Biochar-supported soil also holds water well / better. As such it is also very important for general gardening.
