Space Weather Message Code: WARPC0
Serial Number: 73
Issue Time: 2014 Feb 25 1257 UTC

WARNING: Proton 100MeV Integral Flux above 1pfu expected
Valid From: 2014 Feb 25 1315 UTC
Valid To: 2014 Feb 26 0115 UTC
Warning Condition: Onset
Potential Impacts: An enhancement in the energetic portion of the solar radiation spectrum may indicate increased biological risk to astronauts or passengers and crew in high latitude, high altitude flights. Additionally, energetic particles may represent an increased risk to all satellite systems susceptible to single event effects. This information should be used in conjunction with the current Solar Radiation Storm conditions when assessing overall impact.

STORM WARNING: NOAA forecasters estimate a 45% chance of minor geomagnetic storms on Feb. 27th when a CME from Tuesday's X4-flare is expected to deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field. A dark and moonless midnight sky favors the visibility of high-latitude auroras.

CME IMPACT TRIGGERS GEOMAGNETIC STORM:
A G2-class (moderate) geomagnetic storm is in progress following the glancing impact of a CME on Feb. 27th at 1645 UT (11:45 AM EST). The CME is an after-effect of the X4-flare observed on Feb, 25th (see below). High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

SUBSIDING STORM: A geomagnetic storm that started on Feb. 27th when a CME sideswiped Earth's magnetic field is subsiding. At its peak, the storm measured G2 on NOAA storm scales and sparked bright auroras over northern Europe, Greenland and Iceland...

CONTINUED CHANCE OF MINOR STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 30% chance of minor geomagnetic storms on March 9th when a solar wind stream is expected to brush against Earth's magnetic field. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. The best time to look is during the hours around local midnight.
