Note from Yowbarb - Japanese Independent Journalist Kenji Goto had gone to the middle east to rescue the other journalist, held by ISIS. Mr. Goto was recently executed by ISIS.
He leaves behind his wife and newborn child, his mother and many friends...

Yowbarb Note: I am very sad to say, Mr. Leonard Nimoy has passed away today. From everything I am reading about him he lived a full rich life right to the end. He was battling copd and hospitalized during this past week.
I was a huge fan of his, along with many thousands of people...I am sure he will be greatly missed by his family and by hundreds of friends. I didn't know he passed until about a half hour ago when I saw his photo up on the screen with the caption "He lived long and prospered." Leonard Nimoy 1931-2015

...
Leonard Simon Nimoy (/ˈniːmɔɪ/; March 26, 1931 – February 27, 2015) was an American actor, film director, poet, singer and photographer. Nimoy was known for his role as Spock in the original Star Trek series (1966–69), and in multiple film, television and video game sequels.[2]

Nimoy was born to Jewish immigrant parents in Boston, Massachusetts. He began his career in his early twenties, teaching acting classes in Hollywood and making minor film and television appearances through the 1950s, as well as playing the title role in Kid Monk Baroni. Foreshadowing his fame as a semi-alien, he played Narab, one of three Martian invaders in the 1952 movie serial Zombies of the Stratosphere.

In 1965, he made his first appearance in the rejected Star Trek pilot The Cage, and went on to play the character of Mr. Spock until 1969, followed by eight feature films and guest slots in the various spin-off series. The character has had a significant cultural impact and garnered Nimoy three Emmy Award nominations; TV Guide named Spock one of the 50 greatest TV characters.[3][4] After the original Star Trek series, Nimoy starred in Mission: Impossible for two seasons, hosted the documentary series In Search of..., and narrated Civilization IV, as well as making several well-received stage appearances. More recently, he also had a recurring role in the science fiction series Fringe.

Nimoy's fame as Spock was such that both of his autobiographies, I Am Not Spock (1975) and I Am Spock (1995), were written from the viewpoint of sharing his existence with the character.

A leader in permaculture has passed away.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Whitefield

Patrick Whitefield (born Patrick R. Vickers, 11 February 1949 – 27 February 2015) was a British permaculture teacher, designer, author, and consulting editor for Permaculture Magazine. He was regarded as one of the leading and pioneering permaculture authorities in Europe.

He was born Patrick Vickers, in Devizes, Wiltshire, and grew up on a smallholding in Somerset before studying agriculture at Shuttleworth College in Bedfordshire. After several years working in agriculture in the Middle East and Africa, he returned to Somerset and bought a flower-rich hay meadow, the White Field near Butleigh, to maintain it as a nature reserve. Thereafter he took his name from the field, which, after 25 years, he transferred to the care of the Somerset Wildlife Trust.

As well as producing vegetables, Whitefield undertook a variety of traditional country crafts, and for a period was a prominent member of the Ecology Party. He was an influential British exponent of the permaculture system from 1990, developing his own approach. He was interviewed in several television programmes advocating permaculture, including the BBC's It's Not Easy Being Green (2006) and A Farm for the Future (2008).

He was the author of Tipi Living (1987), Permaculture in a Nutshell (1993), How to Make a Forest Garden (1996), The Earth Care Manual (2004), and The Living Landscape, How to Read it and Understand it (2010). He taught on various courses in England, including at Ragmans Lane Farm in Gloucestershire. He also worked as a permaculture design consultant, and set up Patrick Whitefield Associates to pass on his skills and experience to a new generation of teachers.

He died at his home in Glastonbury, Somerset, on 27 February 2015, aged 66.

Remember The Beverly Hillbillies? Donna Douglas one of the stars of the show passed away in January.
She was a much beloved wife, mother grandmother and actress, who played Ellie May Clampett on the hit show. Last pic: Donna Douglas in movie "Career" and a video clip is just below.

Early life

Douglas was born Doris Smith in the community of Pride, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, in September 1932. The younger of two children,[2] she was the only daughter of Emmett Ratcliff Smith, Sr. and his wife, Elma (née Robinson). Her birth name is listed both as Dorothy Smith and Doris Smith in various articles.

Douglas attended St. Gerard Catholic High School, where she played softball and basketballand was a member of the school's first graduating class. Douglas was named "Miss Baton Rouge" and "Miss New Orleans" in 1957.

Career

Douglas moved to New York City to pursue a career in show business and started out as an illustration model for toothpaste advertisements. She was featured as the "Letters Girl" on NBC's The Perry Como Show in 1957 and as the "Billboard Girl" on NBC's The Steve Allen Show in 1959. These and other television appearances led New York photographers and newspaper reporters to award her the "Miss By-line" crown, which she wore on CBS's The Ed Sullivan Show.

Hal B. Wallis saw the Sullivan episode and cast her in the role of Marjorie Burke in the movie drama Career (1959), starring Anthony Franciosa, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine. This was followed by a bit part in the musical comedy Li'l Abner (1959) and the role of a secretary in the comedy/romance Lover Come Back (1961), starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day.
She made numerous television appearances in the late 1950s and early 1960s, including The Twilight Zone episode "The Eye of the Beholder" (1960).[8] She played Barbara Simmons in four 1961 episodes of the CBS detective series Checkmate. Her other credits included in U.S. Marshal, Tightrope, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Bachelor Father, Adam-12 and Route 66. Douglas also appeared in Thriller, season 1, episode 16, "The Hungry Glass".

The Beverly Hillbillies

Although Douglas was an active actress in the 1960s, she was still relatively unknown when selected from among 500 young actresses to work alongside veteran actor and dancer, Buddy Ebsen, on The Beverly Hillbillies. This series ran for nine consecutive seasons, beginning in 1962 and ending in 1971. Continually typecast as a result of her Hillbillies role, Douglas decided to focus on her career as a gospel singer. [ continued]

Les Inrockuptibles (French pronunciation: [lezɛ̃ʁɔkypˈtiblə]) is a French cultural magazine. Started as a monthly magazine in 1986, it became weekly in 1995. The name is a play on "Les Incorruptibles", the French title of the American television series The Untouchables. Les Inrockuptibles is routinely nicknamed "Les Inrocks". ...the magazine was instrumental in popularising indie rock music with bands such as the Smiths and The House of Love in France and Francophone countries. It was unofficially coupled with the radio show by Bernard Lenoir having a nearly identical name L'inrockuptible.

The magazine produced several tribute records, including the influential I'm Your Fan to Leonard Cohen in 1991, The Smiths is dead in 1996 and Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited in 2006. It periodically issues CD compilations.

Note from Barb:
The terror attack in Paris was the worst incident there since WWII.
This recent video is about the fact that the names of the victims are beginning to be released.
It's not morbid, it is honoring the victims and giving a little more understanding of what happened. Several of the victims were young people including American students. Young people in the music industry also some connected to Eagles of Death Metal, the California group playing at the Bataclan when it was attacked. Various artists and musicians and people connected to the arts,  as well as people of all ages and walks of life...

The article will be posted, soon. If you would like to see the video click the page link.
