Moderator Patrice Shannon (Endtimesgal) reported this. Links to maps are on the page.

Scientists map tsunami inundation zones on Oregon coast   Video on page;

http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Scientists-map-tsunami-inundation-zones-on-Ore-coast-220598681.html

PORTLAND -- Experts say it's not a matter of if but when a major earthquake strikes off Oregon’s coast sending a catastrophic tsunami onto our shores.

Now, for the first time, scientists have mapped the entire Oregon coast to show just how far inland a tsunami would come.

Link to Inundation Maps

Scientists spent four years creating the 131 maps, which show tsunami inundation zones in the event of a distant tsunami and a local tsunami, such as one originating from the Cascadia Subduction zone offshore.

The maps also show evacuation routes people can take to escape it.

“We have 10 assembly areas where people are supposed to go and those assembly areas have in some cases been moved slightly to accommodate the new inundation zone for a Cascadia event,” said Cannon Beach City Manager Rich Mays.

Coastal business owners hope the maps will give visitors a little peace of mind. Geologists acknowledge we are due for a mega magnitude-9 earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction zone.

“They seem to happen about every 300 years was and the last one was 313 years ago so we’re definitely in that window of time,” explained Peter Ovington a Geologic Hazards Outreach Specialist with the Oregon Department of Geology.

Endtimesgal posted about the 7.3 quake earlier today, about 12:30 but I missed that. Fortunately, it looks like no tsunamis from that...

No tsunami warning for the West Coast after earthquake near Japan

An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck off Japan's east coast on Saturday at 3:10 a.m. local time, near the Fukushima nuclear site, the U.S. Geological Survey said

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a yellow-colored tsunami warning Saturday morning, meaning a small tsunami could reach the coast at Fukushima, site of Japan's 2011 nuclear power plant disaster.

There is no tsunami danger for the U.S. West Coast, British Columbia or Alaska, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center, which bases their evaluation on earthquake information and historic tsunami records.

7.3-magnitude quake rocks Japan
By KEN MORITSUGU, Associated Press

TOKYO — An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 struck early Saturday morning off Japan's east coast, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Japan's emergency agencies declared a tsunami warning for the region that includes the crippled Fukushima nuclear site.

Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a 1-meter (3-foot) tsunami warning for a long stretch of Japan's northeastern coast. It put the magnitude of the quake at 7.1. The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not post warnings for the rest of the Pacific.

There were no immediate reports of damage on land. Japanese television images of harbors showed calm waters.

The quake hit at 2:10 a.m. Saturday Tokyo time (1710 GMT) about 290 kilometers (170 miles) off Fukushima. Japanese broadcaster NHK reported that Tokyo Electric Power Co., the operator of the Fukushima plant, ordered workers near the coast to move to higher ground. Japanese news service Kyodo said there were no signs of trouble at the plant.

The tremor was felt in Tokyo, some 300 miles (480 kilometers) away.

All but two of Japan's 50 reactors have been offline since the March 2011 magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami triggered multiple meltdowns and massive radiation leaks at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, about 250 kilometers (160 miles) northeast of Tokyo. About 19,000 people were killed.

TWO HOURS AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE THEN LOCAL AUTHORITIES CAN ASSUME
THE THREAT IS PASSED. DANGER TO BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN
CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE TO THE RAPID CURRENTS.  AS LOCAL
CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE
ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

NO TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS FOR OTHER COASTAL AREAS IN THE PACIFIC

Note from Barbara: Tsunami info is old news now but still, it was a big quake and a situation of magnitude with deaths in Mexico. 7.1 is how this quake is listed in the tsunami warning center. 6.9 in USGS, posted by Jim Farmer this morning on the Town Hall.
No warnings, however for BC west coast Alaska, etc....Also, The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says NO threat to Hawaii...still not sure about any local threat to Mexico but el Mundo posted this: el MUNDO: Magnitude 6,9 en Mexico...Por su parte, desde el Centro de Alerta de Tsunamis informan de que no se espera la formación de Tsunamis ni el incremento en niveles del mar.

Yowbarb Note: I had posted about the underwater volcanic eruption a few hours ago - but didn't know it was considered a tsunami threat. I haven't found official tsunami warnings yet but here is something sent to me by  Global Moderator Ruth:

http://dutchsinse.com/7252015-caribbean-on-tsunami-watch-after-kick-em-jenny-volcano-comes-to-life-near-grenada/

7/25/2015 — Caribbean on TSUNAMI WATCH after “Kick ’em Jenny” Volcano comes to life near Grenada

by Michael Janitch

A day ago, reports of new activity at a Caribbean islands volcano coming to life appeared across multiple news outlets.
The volcano known as "Kick 'em Jenny", located North of the Caribbean island Grenada, is showing signs of imminent eruption.
See the full post from yesterday (July 24, 2015) here:

http://dutchsinse.com/7232015-caribbean-volcano-kick-em-jenny-placed-on-alert-undersea-eruption-imminent/

Today, reports coming out that countries in the region are preparing for a possible Tsunami to occur along with the undersea eruption taking place.
The surrounding countries (islands), as well as the coast of South America, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Bahamas, and South Florida would also need to be aware of this potential threat.

One of many main stream news reports below:
Venezuela "keeping watch" for possible tsunami in Caribbean.

http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/politics/2015/07/24/venezuela-keeping-watch-for-possible-tsunami-in-caribbean/

"Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said his government is "keeping watch" for a possible tsunami in the Caribbean, after the Seismic Research Center of Trinidad and Tobago warned of strong seismic activity in the underwater volcano Kick'em Jenny

"I am in contact with governors, military chiefs and emergency management offices keeping watch for a possible tsunami in the Caribbean following the alert issued," the president said Friday on Twitter, adding that "all measures have been taken to enable us to act whatever the circumstances."
Maduro called for calm and said his government is coordinating with other Caribbean countries and international organizations "on a real-time, objective follow-up of this preventive alert" issued Thursday by the Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
The alert issued Thursday was particularly intended for Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which lie closest to the underwater volcano.
The Venezuelan Seismological Research Foundation said Friday that the Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies issued an "orange alert," which signifies that "a possible eruption could begin in less than 24 hours."
The island of Grenada is located at some 800 kilometers (500 miles) north of Venezuela, a country that has more than 2,700 kilometers (1,700 miles) of Caribbean coastline."

M 8.3 in Chile a few hours ago.  A tsunami warning was issued by the PTWC for Hawaii too. The evaluation was, a major tsunami is not expected to hit Hawaii but caution needs to be taken this could be very dangerous for swimmers, boaters. I posted the entire warning in the Hawaii Board, see Topic, National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center

RE The 8.3 quake in Coquimbo, Chile last night. [That was a subduction thrust event, one of the main tsunami-makers...] [there was one fifteen-foot wave, no more big waves expected...]

Re The tsunami event generated by the 8.3 quake offshore Coquimbo, Chile: There were at least a dozen people killed and about two billion dollars in damage, likely in Coquimbo. Suspicious0bservers mentioned that the wave was fifteen feet max, meaning the largest one of all areas impacted, but it lasted twenty minutes causing a lot of damage. (Vatican Radio)  Eight people have died and more than a million have been evacuated from their homes, following a 8.3-magnitude earthquake off Chile's northern coast, on Wednesday night.

Listen to James Blears' report: See page http://en.radiovaticana.va/news/2015/09/17/chilean_earthquake_forces_one_million_to_evacuate_homes/1172611

The earthquake lasted three long minutes with intensity increasing. Buildings in the capitol, Santiago, swayed, but major structural damage has been averted.

A tsunami warning for the country's Pacific coast has now been lifted. But the intense power of the earthquake was felt across the Region in Argentina, Peru, and Brazil.

In an address to the nation, Chile's President Michelle Bachelet urged those evacuated from low lying coastal areas to stay put on high ground, until the overall situation can be properly and thoroughly assessed throughout the day.

There have been major electricty cuts to thousands of homes, and there have been powerful aftershocks.

Chile, part of which lies along a faultline, is no stranger to the consequences of earthquakes. In 2010 an even more powerful and devastating one killed hundreds of people in the southern city of Concepción.
