Mathematical analysis adds to growing body of work questioning the negative results of a life-detection experiment 36 years ago.

New analysis of 36-year-old data, resuscitated from printouts, shows NASA found life on Mars, an international team of mathematicians and scientists conclude in a paper published this week.

Further, NASA doesn't need a human expedition to Mars to nail down the claim, neuropharmacologist and biologist Joseph Miller, with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, told Discovery News.

"The ultimate proof is to take a video of a Martian bacteria. They should send a microscope -- watch the bacteria move," Miller said.

"On the basis of what we've done so far, I'd say I'm 99 percent sure there's life there," he added.

Miller's confidence stems in part from a new study that re-analyzed results from a life-detection experiment conducted by NASA's Viking Mars robots in 1976.

Researchers crunched raw data collected during runs of the Labeled Release experiment, which looked for signs of microbial metabolism in soil samples scooped up and processed by the two Viking landers. General consensus of scientists has been that the experiment found geological, not biological, activity.

The new study took a different approach. Researchers distilled the Viking Labeled Release data, provided as hard copies by the original researchers, into sets of numbers and analyzed the results for complexity. Since living systems are more complicated than non-biological processes, the idea was to look at the experiment results from a purely numerical perspective.

Militants blow up feeder pipeline to LNG plant after U.S. drone attack

* Explosion blow to Yemen economy, already hit by year of unrest

* Al Qaeda has exploited unrest to seize territory in south (Adds background on Yemen's economy, energy sector)

By By Mohammed Mukhashaf

ADEN, Yemen, March 30 (Reuters) - A U.S. drone attack killed at least five suspected al Qaeda militants in southern Yemen on Friday, and gunmen retaliated by blowing up a gas pipeline, forcing LNG output to be stopped, officials and energy workers said.

The drone set fire to the militants' car in the southern province of Shabwa and killed all its occupants, one official said. One bystander was also killed and five were wounded, officials and residents told Reuters.

Hours later gunmen believed to be militants blew up a pipeline which transports gas to a facility whose leading stakeholder is French oil major Total at Balhaf port on the Arabian Sea, energy workers said.

Residents said flames could be seen from several kilometres (miles) away and a company employee said exports had stopped.

"The explosion took place 28 km (17.5 miles) north of the Balhaf LNG export plant. Production has been halted," an employee of Yemen LNG, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.

The $4.5 billion Balhaf liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility opened in 2009 and was the largest industrial project ever carried out in impoverished Yemen.

Oil and gas pipelines have often been attacked by Islamic militants or disgruntled tribesmen. The pipeline to Balhaf was last blown up in October, hours after an air raid on militants, and took about 10 days to be repaired.

A text message sent to journalists, purporting to come from the al Qaeda-affiliated Ansar al-Sharia (Supporters of Islamic Law), said the group was behind the attack.

"The mujahideen (holy war fighters) blew up the pipeline ... in retaliation for the strike for which Crusader America and its obedient slave in Sanaa are responsible," the message said, referring to the Yemeni government, a close U.S. ally in the fight against al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda has strengthened its hold on southern areas of the Arabian Peninsula country, seizing several towns during the past year of protests against President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who left office in February.

The United States has retaliated with a campaign of drone strikes on the Yemen-based regional wing of al Qaeda, which has claimed responsibility for operations that include a failed plot to blow up a U.S.-bound passenger plane in 2009.

In an earlier text message, Ansar al-Sharia said two militants were "martyred" in the drone attack and four passersby were injured.

Earlier this month, U.S. drone attacks killed at least 25 al Qaeda-linked fighters including one of their leaders, and a Yemeni air force raid killed 20, in the biggest airstrikes since the new president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, took office. [IS:nL5E8EA019]

Neighbouring Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter, shares U.S. concern over the expansion of al-Qaeda's regional wing in a country next to major Red Sea oil shipping lanes.

Yemen has the capacity to supply up to 6.7 million tonnes of LNG per year. In 2010, Yemen LNG, the 16th largest seller of the gas, shipped more than half of its supplies to Asia, the rest going to the Americas and Europe.

The company delivers LNG under long term contracts to GDF Suez, Total and Korea Gas Corp.

Yemen is only a small crude oil producer with a daily output of about 260,000 bpd of oil.

But its location on the Bab al-Mandab strait, through which millions of barrels of oil and tonnes of other goods are shipped daily between Asia, Europe and the Americas, could make instability in Yemen a risk to global trade.

An attack one year ago by tribesmen on its main oil artery cut off crude to the 150,000 barrel per day Aden refinery, forcing it to shut, creating the fuel shortages.

The shortages have prompted Saudi Arabia to repeatedly donate refined oil products to its poor neighbour.

In a separate incident, suspected al Qaeda fighters shot dead two men in Aden on Friday, a local official said. The victims belonged to a clan that has opposed the group's militants in nearby Abyan province, he said.

The Japanese Defense Minister has ordered missile units to intercept North Korea’s rocket if it flies over Japan. Satellite imagery confirms North Korea is proceeding with its plans to launch the Unha-3 rocket despite growing international pressure.
Japanese Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka issued the destroy order at a meeting of the country’s national security council on Friday. The Japanese military had been instructed earlier to intercept the Unha-3 rocket if it flies over the country’s territories.

According to a statement issued by the Defense Ministry, Japan intends to send armed destroyers to the Pacific and East China Sea, AP reports. The country plans to deploy mobile Patriot missile launchers to islands in Okinawa. An interceptor missile unit might also be installed in Tokyo.
North Korea is expected to launch the telecommunications satellite between April 14 and 16. The Japanese authorities fear that rocket stages could fall on its western territories, damaging property or even endangering lives.

The communist country’s neighbor, South Korea, also warned it will intercept the rocket’s parts if they fly over its territory. President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino III announced on Thursday that he is gravely concerned that debris from the rocket might fall on his country.
Experts say that the fresh satellite imagery from Tongchang-ri launch site proves that North Korea is proceeding with its plans to send the rocket despite widespread opposition from the international community.

The footage shows that the launch is “going ahead” and preparations seem to be “on schedule” for the planned launch dates, the Washington Post newspaper cited Joel Wit, an analyst from John Hopkins University, as saying.
Although the rocket itself is not visible in the pictures, the imagery does show trucks and fuel tanks outside buildings believed to be storing propellant for the rocket There is also a crew seen preparing the launch pad.

South Korean authorities announced on Sunday that North Korea had already transported the rocket’s main body to a building in Tongchang-ri. The first stage of the three-stage rocket is expected to be sent to the launch pad in the next two days.

Pyogyang insists the launch of the rocket is peaceful in nature and even invited foreign journalists to observe the process.  The plan, however, was condemned by Russia, the USA, Japan, France and other countries, as it violates UN resolution 1874, which prohibits North Korea from conducting missile tests.  The country’s opponents fear that the launches are part of North Korea’s efforts to build a long-range missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead.

March 28, 2012 – INDONESIA - An active lava dome is growing inside the summit crater of Krakatau volcano. Our tour expedition leader Andi just returned from a visit and reports that the dome is now about 100 m wide, and has 2 main active vents that eject jets of incandescent gas. At night, the glow from the dome is clearly visible from Rakata and Sertung islands, and a continuous intense solfatara plume is rising about 500 m above the summit. Andi and our group observed also that there are now more and larger fumarole fields on the southern part of the cone. According to our observations and the opinion of local scientists, this area is inflated due to the pushing of the lava dome. The seismic recordings from the observatory of Krakatau also show an increase in activity. On 26 March, there were 138 volcanic-tectonic (A-type) earthquakes and 300 long-period (B-type) quakes alone. The question is how long the lava dome remains quiet and purely effusive in style. Explosive, also larger vulcanian-type ones, activity could occur any time.

Life Spotted on Venus - Russian Scientist

MOSCOW, January 20 (RIA Novosti)

An article published in the Solar System Research magazine reported Several objects resembling living beings were detected on photos made by a Russian landing probe in 1982 during a Venus mission. Leonid Ksanfomaliti of the Space Research Institute of Russia’s Academy of Sciences published research that analyzed the photos from the Venus mission made by a Soviet landing probe, Venus-13, in 1982.
The photos feature several objects, which Ksanfomaliti said, resembled “a disk,” “a black flap” and “a scorpion.” All of them “emerge, fluctuate and disappear,” the scientist said, referring to their changing location on different photos and traces on the ground.

"What if we forget about the current theories about the nonexistence of life on Venus, let’s boldly suggest that the objects’ morphological features would allow us to say that they are living,” Solar System Research quoted Ksanfomaliti as saying.
No data proving the existence of life on Venus, where the ground temperature is 464 degrees Celsius (867 degrees Fahrenheit), has ever been found.

Jupiter might be having a change of heart. Literally.
New simulations suggest that Jupiter's rocky core has been liquefying, melting, and mixing with the rest of the planet's innards. With this new data, astronomers hope to better explain a recent puzzling discovery of a strange planet outside of our solar system.
"It's a really important piece of the puzzle of trying to figure out what's going on inside giant planets," said Jonathan Fortney, a planetary scientist at the University of California Santa Cruz who was not affiliated with the research.

Conventional planetary formation theory has modeled Jupiter as a set of neat layers with a gassy outer envelope surrounding a rocky core consisting of heavier elements. But increasing evidence has indicated that the insides of gas giants like Jupiter are a messy mixture of elements without strictly defined borders.

This new research on a melting Jovian core bolsters a mixing model of gas giant planets and would provide another avenue for heavier elements to flow throughout the planet.  "People have been working on the assumption that these planets are layered because it's easier to work on this assumption," said Hugh Wilson, a planetary scientist at the University of California Berkeley and a coauthor of the new research appearing in Physical Review Letters.
Although scientists had previously toyed with the idea of melting cores in large planets, nobody sat down and did the necessary calculations, said Wilson.
Scientists have to rely on calculations of Jupiter's core environment because the conditions there are far too extreme to recreate on Earth. Wilson and his UC-Berkeley colleague Burkhard Militzer used a computer program to simulate temperatures exceeding 7,000 degrees Celsius and pressures reaching 40 million times the air pressure found on Earth at sea level.

Those conditions are thought to be underestimates of the actual conditions inside Jupiter’s core. Nonetheless, the authors found that magnesium oxide -- an important compound likely found in Jupiter's core -- would liquefy and begin drifting into Jupiter's fluid upper envelope under these relatively tame conditions.
Researchers believe that similarly-sized gas giant exoplanets -- planets found outside of our solar system -- probably have similar internal structures to Jupiter. Consequently, scientists were baffled earlier this year when they found a planet with approximately the same volume as Jupiter yet four to five times more mass. Called CoRoT-20b, the new planet was announced in February, and its discoverers searched for a suitable explanation for its unusual density. Using conventional models, the astronomers calculated that the core would have to make up over half of the planet. For comparison, Jupiter's core only represents about between 3-15 percent of the planet’s total mass.

With a core that large, CoRoT-20b presented a huge problem for traditional assumptions surrounding planet formation.
"It's much easier to explain the composition of this planet under a model where you have a mixed interior," said Wilson.
Even the team that discovered the planet noted that a mixing model could allow for a more palatable planet density. Wilson's simulations not only add credence to the mixing model of giant planets but also suggest that this specific exoplanet's core is probably melting just like Jupiter's.
This melting may help explain why the exoplanet's heavy elements are likely stirred up and distributed throughout its volume, said Wilson.
Santa Cruz's Fortney agrees that most of the exoplanet's heavy elements likely reside in the outer envelope. Nonetheless, he expects other factors played a larger role in how the planet's interior became mixed: "It's more of a planet formation issue."

Several other events, such as two gas giants colliding together, might explain the ultra-high density of this new planet, Wilson admits. Certain processes may also limit the effectiveness of the melting and mixing process. Liquefied parts of a gas giant's core may have trouble reaching the outer envelope due to double diffusive convection -- a process commonly found in Earth's oceans. When salty water accumulates at the bottom of the ocean, its density keeps it from mixing thoroughly with the upper layers. In a similar fashion, the heavy elements in Jupiter's core may have trouble gaining enough energy to move upward and outward.

Scientists don't know how much this hindrance will affect potential mixing inside Jupiter, and many other questions remain to be answered about the melting process. "The next question is, 'How efficient is this process?'" said Fortney.
Researchers will have more tools to answer this question once NASA's Juno probe reaches Jupiter in 2016. With the spacecraft's instruments carefully analyzing Jupiter's composition, Wilson believes that there will be signatures of mixing and core erosion.

I personally paid for the translation of this Russian video.

Hello, Billy!

I have looked through the first half of the film and the subtitles really match, though the language is not always "perfect" English!

Kind regards,

CNN Press Club - US Government UFO Disclosure - Alien contact disclosed at US military bases interaction with nuclear devices.

Before I posted this article I searched the board for any mention of it. This alien craft has been over the earth in a polar orbit for over 13,000 years as estimated by scientists. I heard about it in 1987 when the space shuttle transmitted photos of it back to earth and it actually made the news!
Since then it has been banned from news and media and has been filed away. Matter of fact... When spotted from earth it is blamed to be an asteroid.
Is this the asteroid that we are supposed to see fly within a hairs breath of our planet on Feb 16th 2013 (Asteroid 2012 DA14)???

My next question is... Who is SETI really working for?? Is that all a front???

2 major problems with this UFO.

1st: The object weighs over 15 Tons. No country in the world could launch a 15 ton object into space at the time is was 1st discovered in 1899 and I am not sure if we can do it with our modern rocket tech even today!

2nd: The UFO at the time of its discovery was in a polar orbit. Yet, another technology we did not posses until recently.

All photos below were taken by NASA and were actually on the NASA website for years!

In 1899: Tesla developed a high-voltage, radio transmission equipment in Colorado Springs. Teslas announced that he was receiving a electrical signal which appears to intelligent. The signal was clearly repeated periodically with such a clear suggestion of number and order. This lead him to believe that the signal was extraterrestrial communication with aliens. At first he assumed they were originating from Mars. Later he changed that opinion and stated in one of his new conferences that the signal was coming from somewhere else in space.
A few years later: Guglielmo Marconi was intercepted a strange unknown artificial signal.

1927: Unknown mystery satellite orbiting the Earth has been detected astronomers as far back as 1927. Many astronomers reported mysteries radio signals transmitted by this satellite. Then 4 years before the launch of Sputnik I, in 1953 this object was discovered by Dr. Lincoln La Paz of the University of New Mexico. As reports of this object began to come in after this discovery from other scientists seeing the object, the Department of Defense apparently appointed astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh to run a search for the object. Then in 1957, Dr. Luis Corralos of the Communications Ministry in Venezuela photographed it while taking pictures of Sputnik II as it passed over Caracas. Unlike Sputnik I and II, this mysterious satellite orbited in east to west orbit. The Russian and American satellite till this time moved west to east thereby using the Earth’s natural rotation stay in orbit speed.

In 1957, an unknown satellite was detected shadowing the Sputnik I craft. It was in a polar orbit, something that neither the Americans or Soviets were capable of at the time. There was a statement that ham radio operaters pickd up radio transmissions that were “decoded” (whatever that means) as being a star map that indicated the craft originated from Epsilon Bootes 13,000 years before. This object was dubbed “The Black Knight.” In an interview with Project Camelot, Sgt. Clifford Stone also mentioned the Alien Probe:

Then in March of 1960, another mysterious satellite was discovered orbiting earth. This mystery satellite was in polar orbit feat that neither the US nor Russian were capable of at that time. The soviet satellites were inclined at 65 degree angle with the equator. It was calculated that the weight object to about 15 tons, which is far too heavy for rocket of that era. It also travelled twice as fast as any known satellite at the time. The object was sighted and studied by many of the astromoners across the country. This is what Robert L. Johnson, director of the Adler Planetarium had to say about the object,
KNOW WHEN TO WATCH FOR IT.’ he says.” It appears some
nights, and some nights it doesn’t.

It was then photographed by the Grumman Aircraft Corporation.
The military attached so much importance to this mystery satellite that they created special committee to gather information and study the mystery satellite. The committee’s findings were kept secret and the sightings were forgotten. That is still HAM operator intercepted a strange signal from this mystery satellite. The signal was later studied by Scottish astronomer Duncan Lunan. The decoded massages show a star map centered on Epsilon Boštes as seen from the earth. . .  years ago.

This mystery object was name the Black Knight. Is it possible that the Black Knight is (AN ANCIENT). . .  satellite and was sending information about them?

Looking at signals that we have received from space it is a good indication that somebody out there is trying to communicate with us. Is it possible that this is the same signal that both Tesla and Marconi intercepted years earlier?

In 1987 Shuttle Endeavour Mission STS-088 photographed a mysteries object orbiting the Earth. There are 5 photos of the object on the NASA web site. It clearly shows a large orbit circling the Earth. Is it possible that NASA inadvertently photographed the Black Knight satellite? Could this be the same object Gordon Cooper spotted over Australia while on its 22 orbit on board Faith 7?

C: Well, I’ll tell you this, I think that by 2016 that something better have happened. Because at 2016 I think that we’re going to have to announce to the world that there’s a probe that comes very close to the Earth every 15 or 20 years. And we’ve been calling it an asteroid. It’s not an asteroid. But it actually in reality is an artificial probe. In other words, somebody else put it here. They have found us long time ago. The technology will probably be pretty much on a par to, say, Voyager. It’ll be old antiquated technology by all their standards.K: So what are you saying? Is this probe… do you know what race?

C: I’m saying we have already found it. Our paradigm says that it can’t be an artificial craft of any sort, therefore we refuse to accept that and we call it an asteroid. I’m talking about BG1991. Roughly 30 meters in diameter, highly polished surface. Asteroids don’t have a highly polished surface. It took corrective course changes to avoid collision with another asteroid. That don’t happen. This one it did.K: So where… what race is this from, from what planet? Do you know?C: I don’t know.

The Black Knight: Ancient Probe Around EarthIn 1957, an unknown satellite was detected shadowing the Sputnik I craft. Clifford Stone also mentioned the Alien Probe:Source:

To avert a possible catastrophe – this time set for February 2013 – scientists suggest confronting asteroid 2012 DA14 with either paint or big guns. The stickler is that time has long run out to build a spaceship to carry out the operation.
NASA's data shows the 60-meter asteroid, spotted by Spanish stargazers in February, will whistle by Earth in 11 months. Its trajectory will bring it within a hair’s breadth of our planet, raising fears of a possible collision.
The asteroid, known as DA14, will pass by our planet in February 2013 at a distance of under 27,000 km (16,700 miles). This is closer than the geosynchronous orbit of some satellites.

There is a possibility the asteroid will collide with Earth, but further calculation is required to estimate the potential threat and work out how to avert possible disaster, NASA expert Dr. David Dunham told students at Russia’s University of Electronics and Mathematics.
“The Earth’s gravitational field will alter the asteroid’s path significantly. Further scrupulous calculation is required to estimate the threat of collision,” said Dr. Dunham, as transcribed by Russia’s Izvestia. “The asteroid may break into dozens of small pieces, or several large lumps may split from it and burn up in the atmosphere. The type of the asteroid and its mineral structure can be determined by spectral analysis. This will help predict its behavior in the atmosphere and what should be done to prevent the potential threat,” said Dr. Dunham.
In the event of a collision, scientists have calculated that the energy released would equate to the destructive power of a thermo-nuclear bomb.
In response to the threat, scientists have come up with some ingenious methods to avert a potential disaster.
Fireworks and watercolors
With the asteroid zooming that low, it will be too late to do anything with it besides trying to predict its final destination and the consequences of impact.

A spaceship is needed, experts agree. It could shoot the rock down or just crash into it, either breaking the asteroid into debris or throwing it off course.
“We could paint it,” says NASA expert David Dunham.
Paint would affect the asteroid’s ability to reflect sunlight, changing its temperature and altering its spin. The asteroid would stalk off its current course, but this could also make the boulder even more dangerous when it comes back in 2056, Aleksandr Devaytkin, the head of the observatory in Russia’s Pulkovo, told Izvestia.

2012 DA14 orbit diagram

Spaceship impossible?
Whatever the mission, building a spaceship to deal with 2012 DA14 will take two years – at least.
The asteroid has proven a bitter discovery. It has been circling in orbit for three years already, crossing Earth’s path several times, says space analyst Sergey Naroenkov from the Russian Academy of Sciences. It seems that spotting danger from outer space is still the area where mere chance reigns, while asteroid defense systems exist only in drafts.
Still, prospects of meeting 2012 DA14 are not all doom and gloom.
“The asteroid may split into pieces entering the atmosphere. In this case, most part of it will never reach the planet’s surface,” remarks Dunham.
But if the entire asteroid is to crash into the planet, the impact will be as hard as in the Tunguska blast, which in 1908 knocked down trees over a total area of 2,150 sq km (830 sq miles) in Siberia. This is almost the size of Luxembourg. In today’s case, the destination of the asteroid is yet to be determined.

One of the biggest problems I see facing human beings is the fact that they only think of the "NOW". There is no interest in prosperity and future generations. We just live for the day and then we justify our abuse of the planet and each other by saying "By the time the SHTF I'll be long gone... Let them worry about it".

Let's say that the upcoming geological events don't happen over the next several years as we on this forum all think... Well, so what!
How about our kids and future generations??? How about keeping them prepared and on the ready! How about passing down the fundamentals of
how to store foods, plant seeds, learn geology and astronomy and how to read the universe like a book just as our ancient ancestors have done.

Some people tell me that they believe in the Bible literally. My question to them is then have you read the story about Noah? He apparently took the warnings and began prepping. Yes... Noah was the 1st prepper written about in Biblical history. He prepped for years and built an ARC hundreds of miles from the ocean.
So if you believe in the stories of the Bible then you would have to assume that we would not be here if Noah did not prep!

Mankind has a major problem. We have the world pulled over our eyes so that we can't see the true reality.

This brings me to the parable of the Drowning Man:

While out to sea, a large boat became shipwrecked and there was only a single survivor. This man prayed and asked God to save his life. Soon thereafter, another boat came by and offered the man some help.

"No thanks," he said. "I'm waiting for God to save me."

The men on the boat shrugged their shoulders and continued. As the man became more deeply concerned, another boat came by. Again, the people aboard offered this man some help, and again he politely decline. "I'm waiting for God to save me," he said again.

After some time, the man began to lose his faith, and soon after that he died. Upon reaching Heaven, he had a chance to speak with God briefly.

"Why did you let me die? Why didn't you answer my prayers?"

"Dummy, I sent you two boats!"

War and Rumors of War / FBI warns of threat from anti-government extremists
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:42:51 AM »

WASHINGTON | Mon Feb 6, 2012 7:21pm EST

(Reuters) - Anti-government extremists opposed to taxes and regulations pose a growing threat to local law enforcement officers in the United States, the FBI warned on Monday.

These extremists, sometimes known as "sovereign citizens," believe they can live outside any type of government authority, FBI agents said at a news conference.

The extremists may refuse to pay taxes, defy government environmental regulations and believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard.

Routine encounters with police can turn violent "at the drop of a hat," said Stuart McArthur, deputy assistant director in the FBI's counterterrorism division.

"We thought it was important to increase the visibility of the threat with state and local law enforcement," he said.

In May 2010, two West Memphis, Arkansas, police officers were shot and killed in an argument that developed after they pulled over a "sovereign citizen" in traffic.

Last year, an extremist in Texas opened fire on a police officer during a traffic stop. The officer was not hit.

Legal convictions of such extremists, mostly for white-collar crimes such as fraud, have increased from 10 in 2009 to 18 each in 2010 and 2011, FBI agents said.

"We are being inundated right now with requests for training from state and local law enforcement on sovereign-related matters," said Casey Carty, an FBI supervisory special agent.

FBI agents said they do not have a tally of people who consider themselves "sovereign citizens."

J.J. MacNab, a former tax and insurance expert who is an analyst covering the sovereign movement, has estimated that it has about 100,000 members.

Sovereign members often express particular outrage at tax collection, putting Internal Revenue Service employees at risk.

I have been searching for a reliable source with plans for a magnetic power generator that only needs a battery it kick start the motor.
There are some of videos on YouTube of  legitimate running motors, however I have been unsuccessful in making contact with the inventors.
A motor like this could run inside your bunker for years with no fuel needed and no carbon monoxide poisoning.
Does anyone know of a reliable source for this???
