Junior Seau, former linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots, apparently committed suicide today.  He was found in his home by his girlfriend with a bullet wound to the chest.  He played 20 seasons in the NFL and was a 12 time pro bowler and is a sure fire first ballot hall of famer.

I have spent, off and on, probably almost 9 of the last 14 years in the San Diego area and, while not necessarily a Charger fan, I tell you what, the city of San Diego is grieving tonight.  Junior Seau is San Diego.  He graduated from high school in Oceanside, CA, went to college at USC, and played his first 13 seasons for the Chargers.  He has a restaurant here and did countless hours and spent tons of money doing charity work in the area.  The whole city is in shock right now.
The thing that made me sad is that here we are, so close to possibly ascending, and someone like Junior Seau sees fit to take his own life.  That is sad.  RIP Junior...

JKB thanks for posting this, about Junior Seau's untimely passing...
There have been a lot of unusual passings of young athletes or good athletes, champions just past their prime of their careers...
Suicide seems an unlikely event but who knows maybe people get depressed after the height of their careers is over... ?
It is a waste since the slightly older or older champions have a lot to share with the young people, in passing the torch of their knowledge of their sport.
Thanks,
Yowbarb

I feel a sense of loss.
Adam's wife and people close to him must be heartbroken...and the Tibetan cause has really lost someone too...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donna_Summer#Death LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012[1]), known by the stage name Donna Summer, was an American singer-songwriter who gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s. She had a mezzo-soprano vocal range, and was a five-time Grammy Award winner.[2][3] Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard chart, and she also charted four number-one singles in the United States within a 13-month period.

Summer died on May 17, 2012. The Associated Press reports that she died in the morning at her home in Key West, Florida at age 63 following a battle with cancer.[4][5] The Bradenton Herald quotes "Sarasota County records" stating that she lived in Englewood, Florida at the time of her death. The reference did not state the place of her death.[ Continues ]

Her songs will be remembered, in my family, anyway!

One hellavu party and sing a long going on up there now!

Mr. Barry Gibb has passed away.
He was one of the brothers in the Bee Gees band. There was Barry, Robin and Maurice. Maurice passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2003, now Robin has passed away from cancer, so there is onely one brother remaining, Barry.

Bees Gees, Wikipedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee_Gees
Excerpt:
Born in the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived their first few years in Chorlton, Manchester, England, then moved in the late 1950s to Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia, where they began their musical careers.[1] After achieving their first chart success in Australia with "Spicks and Specks" (their 12th single), they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967 where producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience. It has been estimated that the Bee Gees' career record sales total more than 220 million,[2] making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997;[3]

We are definitely losing a lot of musical icons from the 1970s. It's just their time...Earlier in the week it was Chuck Brown and Belita Woods...and others..
Posting a couple more below, more in following posts...
