I've read that property taxes in New York are exhorbitant, even on undeveloped land.  I clicked on "more" to see what other info. there is, but taxes were not listed.

This came in the mail a couple of days ago, and the two properties are in my county:

Reynolds County, MO, 160 acres, 2300 sq.ft. home w/4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, 4 ponds, 21 X 30 metal barns for hay or equipment storage.  Pasture is fenced, 2 large food plots, 7 miles north of Ellington, 7 miles south of Centerville.  1 hr 45 min south of St. Louis.  $380,000.

Reynolds County, MO, 20.2 acres, 2 wells, electricity on both sides of Highway J.  Brushy Creek running through the property.  Great homesites, 5 minutes from Oates, 20 miles east of Ironton and Arcadia.%54,800.

Both are on this brochure from WHITETAILPROPERTIES.COM, and their phone # is 618-581-6265.

BTW:  I have no financial interest in these, nor do I know who owns them, nor do I know anything about whitetailproperties.com, but am just passing them on, as yowbarb has shown how easy it is to do.

ilinda - thanks for that info. That's something to consider...some of the Land Watch ads list the taxes...
I am thinking of going farther north and my son is interested in NY land...Always looking for sites with a little elevation to them also.
Those MO ads - prices look good... MO much more affordable than NY, a beautiful place...as long as not in a flood plain or too close to big rivers...

If you or anyone has any interest in anything near me, I can easily find out the elevation, as we have many USFS maps showing elevations, for many areas in MO.

Yowbarb Note: If land could be obtained in the Boston Mountain area it might be OK. Northern Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma. This is sedimentary, so truth be told, not sure if stable enough. Could be. Note these areas are black (above water) in Tom Lupshu's map. I am not sure how valuable the map is, it is part of my frame of reference when I look at possible survival locations.

The Boston Mountains

General description
The Boston Mountains form the southwestern part of the Ozark plateau where they are the highest, most rugged, and least denuded portion of the Ozarks, owing to their young age relative to the other sections.[citation needed] Summits can reach elevations of just over 2,560 feet (780 m) with valleys 500 feet (150 m) to 1,550 feet (470 m) deep. Turner Ward Knob (TWK) is the highest named peak. Located in western Newton County, Arkansas, its elevation is 2,463 feet (751 m). Nearby, five unnamed peaks have elevations at or slightly above 2,560 feet (780 m). Two of these highest peaks are located 2.2 miles (3.5 km) west of Turner Ward Knob, one being the location of the Buffalo Lookout fire tower at 2,561 feet (781 m).[2] The other three highest peaks are located 4–5 miles (6.4–8.0 km) south/southwest of Turner Ward Knob along Arkansas Highway 16.

I looked at maps again recently and last night... Yes many areas of NY, fracking is banned...other areas the people are struggling to keep the moratoriums in place, or fracking is going on.

Yowbarb Note, RE My Reply #220 on: Today at 06:27:07 PM about acreage in Crawford County (Boston Mountains, I do not see a fracking well listed on there. Yet.) There are wells in counties surrounding that county.  >:(

North Carolina land. Here I thought NC had managed to ban all fracking. It could still happen.

http://rafiusa.org/issues/landowner-rights-and-fracking/fracking-map-in-nc/

In 2014, [Republican] North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed a law lifting the state’s ban on fracking and making it legal for the Mining and Energy Commission to issue fracking permits as early as spring 2015.

In March 2015, the MEC began accepting permit requests for drilling. However, the commission was halted only months later by a federal judge who issued a new moratorium on fracking over a challenge to the constitutionality of the appointments to the MEC.

Some North Carolinians worry that the current regulations are too weak to protect their groundwater, which half of the state population drinks, and deprive local governments of control.

DID YOU KNOW?
Fracking remains on hold in North Carolina due to the success of a local lawsuit that argued the creation of the MEC violated separation of powers.

The North Carolina General Assembly created the commission in 2012, and most of its members came from that same assembly. A judge issued a stay, prohibiting the commission from accepting or processing permit applications for drilling units.

This creates a de facto moratorium on fracking in North Carolina until a ruling on a related case from the state’s Supreme Court.
