"Will the radiation pills help people live through Planet X ?"

Only in regard to spillage from nuclear power plants or nuclear-powered ships, and then only in regard to radioactive Iodine, which has a half life of only eight days.   So, the answer might be: A bit, in the short term, depending on your location downwind from radiation sources after severe earthquakes.

The "radiation pills" also called potassium Iodide, does nothing to radiation. All it does is give Iodine to your thyroid gland. Your thyroid sees the nuclear structure of radiation the same as iodine, and will soak it up, thinking it is iodine. Later, it will cause thyroid cancer. Keep iodine at a good level in your system, so it doesn't get faked out by radiation. There are many sources.     ed

More precisely, the thyroid "picks up" both radioactive and non-radioactive isotopes of Iodine.  Ref.: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/292668/iodine-131 "The most easily detectable fallout product in humans and other animals is iodine-131, an isotope that emits beta and gamma rays and is enriched about 100 times in the thyroid gland through selective accumulation. Because of its relatively short half-life (eight days), iodine-131 is probably not the most hazardous fallout isotope;"
