Ilinda's very informative link expires tonight, so am posting a few screenshots summarizing the info, below.

Will add this first:

Most menopausal women probably already know that the natural progesterone in wild yam (dioscorea) is generally regarded as safe to take.  They may not know about plant based estrogen though, which is entirely different from other estrogen sources in HRT that are regarded as being unsafe to take.

The three forms of estrogen:

Estriol: plant based, generally regarded as safe, available OTC as lotion or transdermal drops

Estrone: estrogen extracted from the urine of mares

Estradiol: synthetic estrogen analog not regarded as being safe.

And regarding fertility issues, one can also:

1. Get a Catholic book on rhythm, regardless of one's religious orientation, to learn that culture's millennia-old understanding of how the fertility cycle works, and do the opposite of the birth control advice.

2. Stop using lotion, which usually contains alcohol and other chemicals that are detrimental to sperm.  Plant-based oils may be fine.

3. Be aware of which direction the uterus tilts, and select a position conducive to allowing sperm to burrow in, even if pillows are needed.  It's also helpful to remain lying in place an hour afterward.

4. Learn to feel the ovulation cramp each month for a better understanding of one's exact ovulation timetable, as it differs for each person.

5. Time intercourse for a day or two ahead of the expected ovulation date, rather than too close to time, so sperm can be in place before the egg is shed.

Because so many states in the U.S., and some other countries, are decriminalizing the "Sacred Plant" (Medical Marijuana) now for use in medical issues, it is probably OK to post this.

The following screen shots were taken from one of the episodes on The Sacred Plant.  These shots were only on screen for a second or two, so I had to back up several times before pausing it at the right spot.  Am posting two shots, as one of them shows the title, whereas the other shows more of what would be seen as one scrolls down.  There is much more than is shown, but that's all that was shown to the audience.

It is obvious that there are many aspects to this plant, and many macromolecules contained therein, plus many uses for them.  But as one researcher has said, it is still better, where possible, to use the whole plant, as you get the "entourage effect" by using the whole plant.

Here's what the PFAF database has to add:

Quote
Edible Uses

Edible Parts: Leaves;  Oil;  Seed.
Edible Uses: Oil.

Seed - raw or cooked. It can be parched and eaten as a condiment or made into cakes and fried[2, 85, 177, 183]. The seed is quite tasty, but it is very difficult to separate from the husk. We have tried grinding the seed, husk and all, and eating it this way, but it does then have a very gritty texture[K]. The seed contains about 27.1% protein, 25.6% fat, 7.4% carbohydrate, 6.1% ash[179]. A nutritional analysis is available calculated on a zero moisture basis[218]. A highly nutritious edible oil, rich in essential fatty acids, is obtained from the seed[105, 183]. Leaves. Used in soups[269]. The leaves contain 0.215% carotene[179].

No wonder TPTB wanted it to remain illegal for so long.
