Re: California earthquakes: San Andreas Activity
« Reply #225 on: November 02, 2018, 11:58:43 PM »
Mary Greeley is reporting that a geyser (a.k.a. mud springs in this case) at the junction of the San Andreas Fault with the Salt Sea has jumped 60' in a single day.  Previously, it had moved 60' over a period of a few months.

Instead of concern over "The Big One" possibly being in the not-so-distant future, more specific worries about how to get rail and highway traffic through the slippage location are under discussion, with the dubious proposal of building a bridge across the affected area being put forth.  Never mind what might happen to the bridge if it is built on unstable ground...

Mary Greeley often finds interesting items, doesn't she?

An earthquake with a magnitude of up to 7.1 rocked Southern California on Friday night, the United States Geological Survey reported. The USGS then reported a following earthquake of 5.5 just 20 minutes later, followed by another 5.5 quake about an hour after.

The 7.1 earthquake, the largest in 20 years, again originated near Ridgecrest, Calif., which was the site of a 6.4-magnitude earthquake on Thursday. At least 1,700 aftershocks have been recorded since. The first 5.5 quake was closer to Little Lake, Calif., the USGS said. The 7.1 quake could be felt as far north as Sacramento, east as Las Vegas and south as Mexico.

Good advice from the sheriff on the microphone @ around 3:15:00 -

*Prepare to take care of yourselves in the near future, as help may not be available

*Stock up on supplies while the stores are still open

*This isn't over yet, more may happen in the next two weeks (?)

*Part of a neighboring county already has its water cut off now

Posting a few clips from a longer composite film of the 7+ event, which occurred in the same location as Thursday's quake, but only one mile deep this time:

Ditrianum says that Germany is reporting the Ridgecrest, California quake as having an actual local magnitude of 7.8 -

His greater concern, however, lies to the north of that location.

This morning's edition of Marfoogle TV mentioned that numerous viewers from the affected Ridgecrest, California area had been evacuated from the town, having been apprised that the chance of another large quake hitting the area has risen sharply to 29% from the single digits just a few days ago.  Even though structures remain standing in the aftermath of both recent quakes, the mere fact that they withstood the crustal movement may place them at risk for undermined structural integrity.

No word yet on where they are evacuating to; perhaps each family is on its own.

Will these families return to the area, or is this another instance in which dwellings are to be demolished along with all equity in them, creating an ever-growing diaspora of new homeless?
