USGS and EMSC do not agree. Reporting data from both.
Earthquake totals in last 24 hours according to:
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/39 'quakes of magnitude >2.4 ⋅ Total mags = 142.7 ⋅ Avg mag = 3.66 (*)
http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/?filter=yes121 'quakes of magnitude >2.4 ⋅ Total mags = 440.4 ⋅ Avg mag = 3.64
(*) magnitude >2.4 in USA, and >4.4 elsewhere. (>2.4 worldwide not available).
USGS has 13 'quakes of mag. >4.4, and EMSC has 16.
------------------------
Three strongest 'quakes from either site:
* Mag. 5.7 in mid-east mid-south Indonesia (EMSC. USGS: 5.6).
* Mag. 5.2 in mid-south mid-west North Atlantic Ocean, opp. Dominica in east central Caribbean Sea (USGS. EMSC: 5.1).
* Mag. 5.1 off the west coast south of Mexico (both sites).
Largest groups of multiple 'quakes from either site:
* 35 in Mexico; inland and offshore of the west coast south, and south central (EMSC. USGS: 6).
max mag. 5.1⋅
* 14 in Chile; north, mid-north, and nearby in Argentina (EMSC. USGS: 2).
max mag. 4.6⋅
* 9 in Alaska; east north, mid-north mid-west, and off south coast central (USGS. EMSC: 6).
* 6 in Indonesia (Papua, mid-east, and west):
Papua off south coast central;
mid-east north and mid-north and south; and
west mid-north and off west coast south (EMSC. USGS: 1).
max mag. 5.7⋅
* 6 in Greece; off west coast mid-south, mid-west north nearby in Albania, and east of Crete (EMSC. USGS: 0).
* 5 in California USA; north west, mid-north west, central east, and south mid-west (both sites).
* 5 in Italy; north east and west nearby in Switzerland, mid-north west nearby in France, and south west (EMSC. USGS: 0).
* 4 in Dominican Republic; mid-west off north coast and south and off south coast, and mid-east north (EMSC. USGS: 2).
* 3 in and/or around each of: ⋅ Turkey, Iran, and southern Australia ⋅ (at least one source site each).
Comment: USGS's exclusion of magnitudes <4.5 outside of USA fails to reveal groups of 'quakes of increasing significance. Note that that criterion is not applied consistently everywhere.
---------------
From USGS (all 'quakes, separate data capture, see notes):
*
163 'quakes of all magnitudes in California and Nevada (max mag. 3.2).
*
94 'quakes of all magnitudes in Alaska (max mag. 4.5).
* Strong 'quakes (mag. > 2.4) in California (5 Qs), Colorado, and Oklahoma (3 Qs) (USA); and in Alaska (11 Qs), Hawaii, and Puerto Rico region.
* Little shakers (mag. 1.0 ~ 2.4) in Washington (4 Qs), western Montana, California, Nevada, Oklahoma (3 Qs), and
NE Arkansas (USA); and in Alaska (
76 Qs), Hawaii (8 Qs), and Puerto Rico (7 Qs).
*
66 little shakers in California and Nevada, plus MANY smaller ones. (All-magnitude clusters in California: SE of Los Angeles and nearby, mid-north mid-west, central east; and minor clusters mid-south mid-east California, and central west Nevada.)
* No 'quakes of any magnitude in Yellowstone Park (NW Wyoming plus strips of Montana and Idaho).
+ 1 'quake of all magnitudes near to
New Madrid, SE Missouri (mag. 2.3).
Notes: Quarry blasts and explosions are excluded from above lists and totals, except where otherwise indicated.
USGS lists some sites near borders as near locations across the border (worldwide).
Earthquake
counts less than 3 are not reported, except where otherwise indicated.
The later data capture for this sub-section causes some inconsistencies with the earlier data set.
----------------------------
From EMSC (three separate data captures):
42 earthquakes of magnitude >1.9 in last 24 hours in Euro-Med region, according to
http://www.emsc-csem.org/Earthquake/Map/zoom.php?key=1&typ=world#2 (approx. 11 in Greece, and 10 in Turkey).
