Relevant to the fact that essential oils have far greater anti-oxidant activity than do foods, is something in Dr. Scott Johnson's book, Surviving When Modern Medicine Fails, which suggests they also are more potent and useful than tinctures.
I cannot find his exact sentence, but he does state:
"The chemical makeup of essential oils is highly complex and may consist of hundreds of distinct chemical compounds. The major compounds, or constituents, found in essential oils can be classified as follows:
Aldehydes
Alkanes
Alkenes
Carboxylic Acids
Coumarins
Esters
Ethers
Ketones
Lactones
Oxides
Phenols and
Terpenes."
In another part of the book he lists advantages of essential oils when he states: "When it comes top natural remedies, one modality reigns supreme--essential oils..., and then he lists six advantages.
