Amazing Barb!  I wonder if brumation is similar to torpor in mammals, which I believe is a deeper state of suspended animation than hibernation. (?)

R.R. you are right, I looked it up. It appears that torpor is the equivalent in mammals of brumation in reptiles.
Amphibians go through estivation in the winter...

"The word 'estivation' is derived from the Latin aestas, which means summer, same as the term "hibernation" is derived from the Latin hiberna, which means "winter." When some amphibians estivate they move underground where it is cooler and more humid."

Lots of rain the south and southeast today, extending from TX all across the gulf states, some midwest states, on up to the northeast Feb 09, 2018. Chance of flooding.
