Celebrating the Dads and Granddads all weekend...

Remembering my own father and grandfathers:

Fishing together at the lake, and glad he didn't get flustered when I cast my hook and line into a tree

Searching for lost golf balls in the woods and being rewarded with a grape soda

Discussing books on the phone after I moved away

Watching storms come in on the prairie and counting the distance between lightning and thunder

Listening to him tell stories and jokes in the tornado cellar

Using an ink pen to draw mustaches together on authority figures and politicians in the Sunday papers

A pack of chewing gum always in his shirt pocket

His pipe with a wonderful familiar smell

Basement full of half-baked inventions

Feeding every cat in the neighborhood

Making stuffed animals "talk" like Donald Duck

An amazing library that I never got tired of exploring

Good at fixing things

Steeled my nerves when walking me down the aisle with everyone staring

Staying up til midnight on weekends to watch old movies together

Loved Easter egg hunts with difficult hiding places

Lied about catching the Easter bunny and being kicked in the shins

Stayed up all night on Christmas Eve every year drinking coffee with the menfolk, because they were too excited to go to sleep

Sometimes bought me complicated toys meant mostly for him

Would pretend to get mad if losing board and card games

Allowed us kids to have a sip of wine or brandy on New Year's Eve

Graciously climbed trees to clean up all the tissue paper when friends decorated the yard during the night before my 18th birthday

Would get me out of school to take me on trips to historic places

Taught me how to build an igloo one winter

Was a master gardener

Have a wonderful weekend fellas!

Very touching, whether it's about a dad or granddad or both.

Amazon Tribe Wins Lawsuit Against Big Oil, Saving Millions Of Acres Of Rainforest

The Amazon Rainforest is well known across the world for being the largest and most dense area of woodland in the world. Spanning across nine countries, the Amazon is home to millions of different animal and plant species, as well as harboring some for the world's last remaining indigenous groups. The Waorani people of Pastaza are an indigenous tribe from the Ecuadorian Amazon and have lived in the Rainforest for many generations. However, their Home came under threat from a large oil company - they didn't take it lightly.

Legal Win
After a long legal battle with a number of organizations, the Waorani people successfully protected half a million acres of their ancestral territory in the Amazon rainforest from being mined for oil drilling by huge oil corporations. The auctioning off of Waorani lands to the oil companies was suspended indefinitely by a three-judge panel of the Pastaza Provincial Court. The panel simply trashed the consultation process the Ecuadorian government had undertaken with the tribe in 2012, which rendered the attempt at land purchase null and void.

This win for the indigenous tribe has now set an invaluable legal precedent for other indigenous nations across the Ecuadorian Amazon. After accepting a Waorani bid for court protection to stop an oil bidding process, the court also halted the potential auctioning off of 16 oil blocks that cover over 7 million acres of indigenous territory.

Government Corruption
While there is no evidence, some people believe that the Ecuadorian government may be accepting bribes in some roundabout way. The land in question is meant to be protected under Ecuador’s constitution that establishes the inalienable, unseizable and indivisible rights of indigenous people to maintain possession of their ancestral lands and obtain their free adjudication.

Furthermore, the constitution also states that there is a need for prior consultation on any plans to exploit the underground resources, given the probable environmental and cultural impacts on tribal communities. The government claim they did do this in 2012, however, the tribe alleges that the agreement they came to was based upon fraudulent practices in favor of the oil companies and the government was favoring their bottom line over the people the actually still live on this valuable land. Due to this, the judges ordered the Ecuadorian government to conduct a new consultation, applying standards set by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights before anything else is agreed regarding the exploitation of the natural resources below the ground.

Excellent news Barb - isn't that forest considered to be the "lungs" of the earth?

Also, if it's true that PTB want to clear-cut as many trees as possible in order to implement 5G in every corner of the planet, we have all the more reason to celebrate this decision.

Yes and it is an amazing win... not  necessarily a permanent one, but a wonderful occurrence!

And here we thought that the WSJ report on Trump wanting to buy Greenland was a joke!  ;D

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-08-18/its-not-joke-trump-confirms-he-looking-strategicaly-interesting-greenland

As we reported last week, the Wall Street Journal said that Trump "listened with interest" as his advisers discussed Greenland’s strategic location and vast natural resources, directing them to study the possibility of acquiring the island for the US. Not even the fact that Greenland is an autonomous country with over 56,000 people and its own local government, appeared to faze Trump, and while it relies on Denmark for two thirds of its budget, Copenhagen couldn’t sell it even if it wanted to.

Greenland is an autonomous country

Not exactly.

Greenland | History, Geography, & Culture | Britannica.com
https://www.britannica.com/place/Greenland
Aug 7, 2019 - Although Greenland remains a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, the island's home-rule government is responsible for most domestic affairs.

From "ZetaTalk Chat Q&A for August 31, 2019"  updated 17/Aug/19, at http://www.zetatalk.com/ning/31ag2019.htm
[start excerpts]
[Q]  Greenland is strategically important, militarily.   It also has a good deal of higher ground. ... What else might Trump have in mind?  ... Historically, countries have acquired territory not only through military conquest but also financial deals. Under the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, the US acquired about 827,000 sq miles (2.1m sq km) of land from France for $15m (£12.3m). In 1867, the US reached a deal with Russia to purchase Alaska for $7.2m. ... the US later purchased the Danish West Indies in 1917 and renamed them the US Virgin Islands. ... President Donald Trump has reportedly expressed strong interest in buying the island of Greenland from Denmark for its resources and geopolitical significance. It's unclear how exactly the U.S. would go about buying the largest island in the world after failed American attempts to purchase Greenland in 1867 and 1946. ... Trump is set to visit Denmark next month.  Trump reportedly got the idea after hearing that Denmark was having financial problems because of the subsidies it pays to Greenland.  ... The U.S. already has an airbase in Greenland ...
...
[A]  There are dozens of reasons Trump would want Greenland to be a US territory, among them the quantity of precious fresh water that will come available after the Pole Shift and a strategic position in the Arctic. Greenland would be a second foothold in the Arctic, the first being Alaska. Denmark struggles to pay the welfare bill for Greenland’s 56,000 inhabitants, so making a deal, as Trump likes to tout, would be financial. He would sway both Denmark and Greenland with US greenbacks. The US already has an air base there, and both Denmark and the US are NATO members, so objections should be few.

I think that story could equally fit under the heading of "Disturbing News"...

Does anyone else feel that way?  :-X

More to the contrary.  Trump+Junta trying to prepare for conditions after the pole crust shift.

China built "ghost cities" for that purpose, and Russia is trying to shift operations to the eastern parts of the country.

Just had to share a little anecdote about today:

I was wishing that I could come up with the funds to do something thoughtful for someone who really could use a kindness this week, but just couldn't see how I could stretch the budget to do anything impulsive just now.  But the thought didn't go away.

To my great amazement, throughout the day today I kept finding money that I'd apparently mislaid here and there, even though I'm not that scatterbrained, nor a really terrible housekeeper!  ::)

It served as a reminder to me Who really owns everything in the Universe, and that we don't even need to ask for things we desire, if our hearts are in the right place.

Great story, RR.  I needed that.
