Interplanetary shock wave sparks rare electric-blue auroras [Canada]

from the article:
Quote
An interplanetary shock wave hit Earth's magnetic field on April 19th around 23:50 UT. When the disturbance arrived, the density of solar wind flowing around our planet abruptly quadrupled and a crack opened in Earth's magnetic field. The resulting G2-class geomagnetic storm sparked unusual "electric blue" auroras.

(Emphasis mine.)  Wonder from which planet the shock wave came?  Does this seem like a potentially telling event that is being under-explained, or is it just a normal occurrence?  Apparently it's not just an EMP from our sun, but rather from somewhere else...

Yes, since "inter"-planetary means between planets, presumably two planets, one being Earth, now what is the other one?  We may see evidence soon on one of those researchers' youtube sites--the ones who show the magnetic fields around Earth, etc., and how it's pulled here or there, pushed here and there, etc.

But also, what caused the shock wave in the first place?  Am thinking here....a shock wave from a nuclear blast begins as the first ripple(s) begin to emanate outward, presumably after the explosion displaces whatever is in its path.    So, what is the analogy?  What recent explosion has there been?  What recent event was there which would cause a shock wave?

Could an implosion also cause a shock wave? Am stumped on this for now....
