Would love to hear Tenzin Gyatso's perspective on what just happened there...

Wonder if he'd be reluctant to say much publicly for fear of reprisals?

Possibly, but if ever there was a time that an exiled ruler needed to speak out rather than remaining on the sidelines, this would seem to be one of them.

Missouri University students are now required to have tracking devices on their cell phones:

With students at the University being mostly over 18 years of age, the faculty have no legal obligation to babysit them, so why are they doing it?  Has the University never heard of electronic stalking?

The school administration claims to be using the software for class attendance records.

Ironically, it was the tech department at MU that developed software to track, among other data points, personal information such as the emotional state of individuals, for benevolent use on patients and soldiers, of course.

But a college student in his civilian capacity is neither a patient nor a soldier.  I wonder what the fine print on the University tracking ap says about what, if anything else, the "smart" software can learn about students?  How much, if any, of the collected data is sold or surrendered to a third party?  Can students decline to carry a cell phone?

Missouri University technology department testing tracking software developed by students

Here are electronic tracking laws for all 50 states (date unspecified), with Missouri and Kansas being the lone hold-outs to address this issue:

Tracking college students does seem intrusive, plus just a dumb idea.  Probably illegal too.

Ice Age Farmer provides a template for the newly required letter of permission to move about that is being instituted in some locations, so that homesteaders can assert their need and right to gather supplies for their gardens:

IA Farmer Alliance

Quote

March 25, 2020

To Whom It May Concern:

The bearer of this certificate works in the agriculture industry and must travel as part of job duties regardless of the time of day as part of a sector that has been deemed by the US Government as critical to the infrastructure of the United States. Agriculture is essential for the continued function of the economy in this time of crisis. This individual is engaged in the production of food, and must continue operating.

The agriculture industry is designated a "Critical Infrastructure Segment" under Presidential Policy Directive 21, implementing 42 U.S. Code § 5195c(e). It is therefore the policy of the US Government that these industries continue to function with minimal disruption in the event of an emergency. Furthermore, in a March 16 guidance, the President of the United States has instructed employees within Critical Infrastructure Segments to continue performing their normal job functions during the coronavirus pandemic.

The continued production of food is vital to the health and wellness of the American people during this emergency.

As such, the individual in possession of this letter is a "critical infrastructure industry employee" and must be considered exempt from any state or local restrictions such as curfews, shelter-in-place orders, and other mobility restrictions when performing work functions.

Should you have any questions about this letter, please reference the DHS guidance at https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce

As an aside, I had to laugh at our governor's recently published decision to "allow the farms to remain open," as if they were just another business... ::)
