Americans emigrating to other locations pre-apocalypse
« on: September 06, 2018, 05:52:14 PM »
Starting a new thread about Americans bugging out to other countries, beginning with this film about ex-pats moving to New Zealand.  After all, if the world turns upside-down and remains that way, they will be "right-side up" and the seasons may (eventually) be what they were accustomed to...

Here's an 11 minute documentary by NBC News:

One subtle point, quietly made by a local, was that wealthy Americans were driving up the cost of even modest housing for native New Zealanders.  The local woman who mentioned this had just enough tension audible in her voice to suggest that resentment may have been building up on a wider scale within the community.  I would hate to be responsible for causing young local families not to be able to afford a mortgage.

Yes, that was duly noted here as well.  Plus, I've read there's a sort of quiet battle between the organic community and the pro-GM crowd in NZ.

The grass usually does look greener on the other side of the fence.

Follow up on New Zealand story:

The Guardian reports that New Zealand has just passed legislation banning most foreigners from buying houses in the nation, in hopes that an increase in the supply of housing would bring prices back down in line of what their own citizens could afford.  Home prices had been driven up by 75% in the past few years, even though the market had slowed.

More than a million acres in New Zealand were sold to non-citizens in 2016, according to the report.  For comparison, there are fewer than 5 million citizens in the entire country.

Quote
“We should not be tenants in our own land.”

Under the new law, foreigners may still purchase an apartment in a densely populated housing area, but may no longer apply for citizenship after only a short time in residence.

Here is an article from Forbes magazine, referred to by Evolutionary Energy Arts, which says that numerous U.S. billionaires are crossing state lines, rather than emigrating out of the country, into dry areas such as Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming and Texas.  As would be expected, they are buying up farmland, some by the hundreds of thousands or millions of acres.

The largest acreage belongs to John Malone, who owns over 2 million acres in Colorado and Wyoming, among other places, the equivalent of two states of Delaware..  He just looks like a nice, ordinary person here:

The remainder of the article details Scallion's earth changes map, region by region, and plans of the very rich to build their own cities.

As discussed in a previous post, New Zealand is again believed to become one of the choicest places on earth to live.
