Public and Private Underground Tunnels and Facilities
« on: November 03, 2018, 11:22:37 AM »
Starting a new topic on Public and Private Underground Tunnels and Facilities.  The topic is dual-purpose, to detail where the public can congregate in an emergency necessitating being underground, and to post warnings about underground facilities that may best be avoided due to being occupied by Service-to-Self oriented individuals and their inhumane schemes.

Even if an underground facility may be a normal community feature in non-emergency times, there is no telling what may happen under extreme circumstances.  Under no circumstances would I want the doors to be locked, unless some sort of attack were underway.

An example of a private facility that has a decades-old solid reputation as being of a STO (Service-to-Others) orientation is a Nazarene college in Oklahoma, which at least in the past had regularly offered the underground portion of its campus to local members of the public during tornado watches.  At least that is my childhood memory of the place, as there has been some reconstruction of the campus in my long absence.

Readers are advised to pay attention to their inner wisdom and remain in prayer about whether a particular underground location may be safe or not.

For those in California, Disneyland has an underground tunnel system primarily set up for staff, though visitors are welcome.  However, I would not want to be trapped there during seismic activity.

Disney World in Florida apparently does not have an underground level, though it does have an above-ground lower level, per this:
Quote
The water level in Central Florida is too high to be able to have underground tunnels, so the park was built up higher instead.

Though, given the post a while back about the ill-behaved Transformer bots, this aspect could prove a bit creepy if the AI got out of hand:
Quote
The Digital Animation Control System (DACS) is also housed in the Utilidors. DACS is the “nerve center” that controls the hundreds of Audio-Animatronics figures, by orchestrating more than 72,000 individual functions every second. DACS also opens theater doors, elevates stage lifts, operates lighting and curtains, and monitors fire protection, security, equipment failure, and power loss.

Montreal has an entire underground level connecting up its buildings - a great feature in a cold climate prone to blizzards!  Its universities also have separate underground tunnels.  Good places to take refuge from other onslaughts?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underground_City,_Montreal

Quote
Combined, there are 32 kilometres' worth of tunnels over twelve square kilometres of the most densely populated part of Montreal. In total, there are more than 120 exterior access points to the network

Quote
Nearly 500,000 people use it per day. It is also the largest underground complex in the world. It stretches for 32 kilometers (20 miles) and covers 4 million square meters. According to official statistics, its corridors link up with 10 metro stations, 2 bus terminals, 1,200 offices, about 2,000 stores including 2 major department stores, approximately 1,600 housing units, 200 restaurants, 40 banks, 40 movie theatres and other entertainment venues, 7 major hotels, 4 universities, Place des Arts, a cathedral, the Bell Centre (home of the Montreal Canadiens), and 3 exhibition halls: the Place Bonaventure, the Convention Centre (Palais des Congrès de Montréal) and the Olympic Centre.
