Great ideas PButter for keeping on track. I also find if I mediate at least 30 min a day I am much calmer and able to process whats going on without stress. Listening to our hearts to me is the same as intuition and that is key which in turn opens us up to love. You have great insight!

Do you believe that we are born with a purpose for this life? Some believe that we choose our life path before we incarnate in this life. If you believe we have a purpose, how do you think we figure that out? Do we just know, or do certain situations happen in a synchronized pattern to lead us down a certain path?

Linda, I don't tell of this very often, but before I had my heart attack, in 2003, I had foreseen my death. Everything happened as I had envisioned. They even had the group of doctors that harvest organs present at my surgery.(I don't think they expected me to make it). But, something had changed. It was a battle, but I am alive, although disabled. I have since then had a belief that there is/was someone whom I am supposed to help. Every time I go to my Martial Arts class that I advise and consult, I wonder which student/students am I supposed to effect. I have to laugh, because my cardiologist, one of the best around here, has mentioned that he is surprised I am still around, my last two visits. Obviously, the person hasn't arrived yet, or, I haven't helped them yet, because I am still here going strong. I guess you could say that I believe in fate, and having a purpose. I am very blessed.

Wow Ed, that is a wonderful inspirational story. I am sure you do have a purpose and it may very well be the people on this site that you help.

I have had a similar story where my whole direction in life changed. I knew ahead of time that something was going to happen to me, because I was warned to prepare for it. I made the preparations I felt led to do still without knowing exactly what or when this "thing" was going to happen. Eventually about 6 months later in June of 1998 I became ill with Gillian Barre Syndrome, was paralyzed and in the hospital for 6 months, and left with some disability. My direction in life changed from that point on, and I also realize that I have people to help and things to accomplish, so I take it one day at a time.

Thanks for sharing that Ed.

Ed, is Martial Arts your way of keeping in shape? I do weight training and some yoga thrown in. I am going to try Qi gong one of these days.

At this point, I do what I can, but I mostly just walk. I do go to what I used to call "my class", twice a week, but my head instructor is the main teacher, and I just assist and advise what I can. I was still very active, even at age 52, when I had the heart attack. But I have been doing a martial art of some kind, for over 40 years. It led me to other training, for my mind. It may have helped save my life, with the mind over body training. There are many times that I want to warn the students and tell them about 2012, but that is not why I am there, and would probably scare most of them away.haha

It's amazing what we can learn when we really listen to ourselves. I know what you mean about warning people about 2012,, they tend to freak out or think your a kook.  ;D

Here is the original post:

Stage one – AWAKENING
In stage one, we are the restless. We go through life asleep to our true purpose for existing. We feel restless, searching for meaning in the meaningless things of the world. We live a never-ending search, looking for happiness and peace in everything outside of ourselves. At some point, we realize we are barking up the wrong tree and turn within. Many times this will be brought on by a crisis in our lives. Eventually we start to awaken to the idea that we were born to make a difference; that there has to be something more to our lives. We are not just cogs in some machine. We realize that who we truly are is important and that we have something meaningful to contribute to the world, even though we may not know exactly what that something is. It is at this point of awakening that we enter stage two and begin the journey of finding out exactly why we are here and what we are supposed to do with our lives.

Stage two – DISCOVERY
In stage two, we are seekers, determined to discover what is our gift, what it is that we love to do? We start noticing what we really enjoy doing for the pure joy of it versus for money and recognition. Eventually we understand without a doubt what it is that we love to do, and we realize that this is our gift for the world. Once we realize what this gift is, we can enter stage three.

Stage three – INITIATION
In stage three, we are artist, determined to cultivate our gifts and win the battle against our ego and the many inner demons that arise to convince us that we are not worthy, not good enough, or that no one will need what we have to offer. We will deal with issues of survival, and money. But eventually we will defeat these demons. We will begin to understand that there is a larger purpose for what we love to do; that there is a loving higher power that is guiding us; that what we love to do is a necessary and meaningful part of healing the planet. At this point, fears about survival will be washed away by our deep desire to help make the world a better place. We will finally answer the questions: “Why am I here?” and “What am I supposed to do with my life?” When we realize that we are to heal the world with our gifts, we enter stage four.

Stage four – PURPOSE
In stage four–the last and final stage–our life purpose has become clear. It is clear who we are, why we are here, what are our gifts, and how we are to use these gifts to heal the planet. Now our focus shifts from what we can get with our gifts to how can we can give and contribute unconditionally. Now we see that there is much work to be done. No longer do we stand back and feel powerless. With God at our side, and his love in our hands, we boldly jump into the fray. When we give of our gifts freely and unconditionally to the world, we have become dream masters!

Wow Linda, that is great! And so very true!

Several things happened to get me off my materialistic road I had been following. I was with a group of guys who went into Iraq just before the invasion in 2003. Four big things happened during the actual invasion that made a serious impact on my life & the way I live it. Four times we were faced with overwhelming odds and I knew my time was up, but when the large enemy forces advanced on our position.... There was no one there but us. Four times this happened. I sometimes wonder if I wasn't killed in my sleep and I'm actually in another place right now... Maybe purgatory? I don't know.

Then in 2007 I had a parachute malfunction while on a military skydive jump and had a very bad landing. I landed horizontally and blew 6 discs in my neck & back.

I had the first surgery, then went back to my job as a Ranger/RSLC instructor at Ft Benning. I was in severe pain for 8 months, finally got another surgery to correct that one. The doc pulled out all the hardware from a double fusion. 3 weeks later, he committed suicide; 4 weeks later, the fusion fell apart and my neck caved in. One more surgery later and a civilian doc finally fixed it. I still need a double fusion on my back, but I'm medically retired now and working out to try & fix myself mentally, spiritually, & physically.

I dumped the pain & psycho MEDS cold turkey four months ago. My wife left my 3 daughters & me then. I'm healing... You guys are helping me 100%.

Ed, you are helping me, Sir. And everyone else looking for answers. I believe THAT sir is your purpose. Mine? Who knows. I'll keep dumping everything I know onto this board & try to get my kids to the other side. Nothing else matters to me. As far as I'm concerned, I already lived my full life; died & here now on another mission. This one is not about me.
 :)

Errv,  :'(.  We are all here together for a reason.  I can understand the pain.  Have it too.  Like you not taking meds.  They wipe me out.  We are about to see the greatest event next to the Resurrection that the world has ever seen.  I pray we all make it through and have one big wild party together where ever we are together.

God Bless you.

Erv and Ed,

I suppose that you have tried a few alternative treatments by now?

One that comes to mind:  herbalist Richard Schulze has a recipe for "bone-break" tea (or some similar title) that might help.  http://curezone.com/schulze/default.asp (http://curezone.com/schulze/default.asp)  and  https://www.herbdoc.com/index.php?&c=1 (https://www.herbdoc.com/index.php?&c=1) .

Energy healing?  http://www.quantumtouch.com (http://www.quantumtouch.com) can work on bones as well as tissues.

If there is a good side to pain, it is that it lets you know that you are alive. You kinda get used to it, after a while.    ed

Sure makes you appreciate life more. I think hardship is the key to a good life here on earth. You don't appreciate anything or learn anything otherwise. I see it now... Was not able to see it before I got hurt. Part of waking up process too.

Every day I wake up & get to spend more time here I am truly grateful!

Mmmmm tuna casserole.... ;D
Actually, I finally got a chance to read the 4 stages and I seem to be crossing from stage 2 into stage 3 at the moment going right in order lol. Very interesting post!
The turning point for me was chronic illness, it really makes you look your priorities in the face. As many of you are aware, when your life becomes limited by pain or illness, it becomes much more precious and every moment that you can make a good and valid one is a gift. Which makes you decide just what is truly important, and to do that you start seeking purpose...and well, here I am. Even tho I've only been on the board a couple of weeks, I feel like I'm with people I can finally relate too. Sort of like coming home and you've all made me feel welcome. What I'm learning from all of you is amazing, and helping me move into that final stage  ;)

I had a friend that used to say "you feel like and old pair of slippers".
Meaning warm, fuzzy, and already broken in to a perfect fit. That's how it feels here.
Yes - like family.
(it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that at least in a spiritual way we are - not to step on anyone's beliefs of course - just that we all seem drawn to be here at this time)

Ditto, Sunny and Susan!  Thanks Linda for the completed posting!

Your welcome, sorry I didn't notice it was missing sooner, but all things happen in the correct time frame.

Might I suggest to all that are in joint and disc pain, try some high doses of Cod Liver Oil and at least 4000iu of D3 a day. It make take a few months to make a difference, but it does work.

My husband works a manual labor job at age 62, and was having a lot of hip and knee pain. After a few months on this regimen he has a lot of relief.  We need lubrication just like a squeaky wheel.

We are also seeing results in a lot of people that come into the Health Food Store I work at.

Errrv, I would still add Cod Liver Oil, it's one amazing food!! You won't get the high Vitamin A or D in apple cider vinegar or honey, which are also  super foods. They are high in trace minerals.  I actually use all of these products.

Grandma knew best!! Hold your nose and open mouth for a teaspoon of God Liver Oil. :P

What are the Benefits of Cod Liver Oil?
Cod liver oil is a wonderful nutritional supplement which provides multiple health benefits. It is rich in nutrients such as:

Vitamin A: helps to maintain a healthy immune system, helps resist bacterial and viral infections, and beneficial for eyesight and healthy skin.
Vitamin D: helps maintain strong and healthy bones.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: have anti-inflammatory properties which help relieve the symptoms of arthritis, improve brain function, reduce stress, prevent allergies, relieve asthma, and help with learning and behavioral disorders including bipolar syndrome.
EicosaPentaenoic Acid (EPA): is great for the cardiovascular system and helps reduce inflammation throughout the body. Also works as a natural anti-depressant.
DocosaHexaenoic Acid (DHA): is also a fatty acid which is vital for good eyesight, a healthy nervous system, and healthy skin.

Research has also shown that consuming 1-2 teaspoons of cod liver oil daily can help to prevent serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, musculoskeletal pain, kidney problems, and high cholesterol.

Just an all around great food source!!
