Here is one built from 3 shipping containers connected together. They cleverly used the connecting passageways for closet and laundry space:

So much more appealing that a huge and conventional home!

Tiny homes made from shipping containers in the Catskill Mountains are being rented out for $165 per night to tourists.
Idea: How about instead owning one to live in, and another one to rent out?

Adorable!

While the above tiny homes may have cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, this one cost nothing, with the exception of twine and hand tools. It was built entirely without power tools, using locally sourced materials in the wild.
If desired, small livestock could even be kept in the lower enclosure:

Truly adorable and looks so inviting!

In the wake of Hurricane Maria, some in Puerto Rico are now building storm-friendlier homes out of garbage, called Earthships. The buildings are said to be 100% hurricane and earthquake-resistant:

Watched the tiny home tour and was really impressed with their work ethic, industry, etc. Their setup is really beautiful and they obviously put a lot of thought into the development of their homestead.

I love all those...

Here's an amazing young family of 7 (2 parents and 5 daughters) living completely off the grid in Northern Canada, in a cabin which they built themselves. I love how simple their set-up is, yet it meets all of their needs year 'round:

And love the simplicity of their living arrangements. Beautiful example of "small is beautiful".

The designers of this tiny home created an open, airy garden design inside, using a lot of "cottage chic" distressed whites in their scheme:

This one was featured in Country Living magazine:
The only concern is whether comfort is sacrificed for beauty in the interior. Would a grown man be able to stretch out and get a little messy here in his own personal non-designer space, for example? Isn't that what we call "home?"

Here's an old salvaged railway car transformed into a home. Kind of reminds me of The Boxcar Children. The open loft atrium makes it anything but claustrophobic, and the art deco bathroom is exquisite. Cost was under $30,000:

This one may be too small for long-term living for a whole family, but what a great getaway in a pinch, and difficult for others to reach easily:

Too cute! Looks so cozy, but agree it might be a bit too tiny for more than a day, or more than 1 or 2 people. But could it be made taller and have a loft? But maybe that wouild look more like a lighthouse!

Gorgeous setting but interestingly he did comment on the loneliness at times. OTOH, he does go to town 1-2X/week, so that affords him a bit of socializing.
-
I noticed that he had set a limit for himself of one year in isolation in that spot, and then he planned to move around a bit, which could entail meeting more people.

Great looking setup. That guy has put much more thought (than most) into the fact that "we all live downstream". The interior is especially appealing, as it appears really roomy. The dimensions he stated mean that it is larger than it appears in the video. Very impressive!
