Coloring books, crayons. picture books - animals, trees, nature - story books, lullaby/song books - We may very well be holed up somewhere (dark) for quite some time, and these items allows for positive, creative expression, imagination - and the animal books may become visual memories of species passed..Let's remember the small simple items that allow joy in a catastrophic situation.

I see this Topic hasn't had a response for awhile, also there are games toys and all added to survival lists, somewhere.
However this seems like a worthwhile Topic.
Ideas, anyone?
As Gingerkane had suggested, it's a really good idea to have
the coloring books, crayons and children's books.
I think we can add children's alphabet blocks
cards games for children,
other games
windup record player and children's records
For those a little bit older I suggest:
art supplies
battery - operated CD player
board games,
books - young adult and the classics
calendars
cards, regular decks
chess sets
journals
pencils
pens
records tapes Cd's if no electrical generator then a stash of records and a windup and/or battery - operated record player...
For teens young adults and adults there should be a small library with the selection of fiction works normally read during Jr. high school, high school and college.
Reference books will be important to all so there should be encyclopedias and dictionaries for a various ages.
There should be a supply of things such as bulletin boards, paper, paper clips staples etc. and as I said, journals so they can put down their feelings as they are going through these experiences...

Members, add your suggestions and the list can be copied and carried forward.
You can either copy it and splice in your idea alphabetically or simply post it here and I will add it.
Thanks,

What a wonderful list!  Thanks!

I figure you will have more additions to the list. Sounds like you were really good with kids, and steering them in the right directions.
 :)

Well, since we are dreaming big, how about some dress ups for the girls, high heels, old formals, etc.  I come from a big family and we were poor.  All us kids, 4 boys and 5 girls, loved putting on plays and entertaining our parents and the neighborhood.  There are many pictures of us all dressed up in the most innovative and outlandish outfits, even the boys sometimes dressed up in dresses, and they all turned out very manly.  But the boys would put on old hats, and men's jackets and we imagined all kinds of scenarios from Tarzan and Jane, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and all the fairy tales. Also we parodied our parents, dad going to work, mom cleaning house and making dinner.  So different than today.  Pretty tame stuff compared to the things our children are exposed to today.  We never imagined monsters, aliens, and the most out there thing was Casper the friendly ghost.  That was the true innocence of childhood, something which is missing today.  I personally think we do not monitor what our children are exposed to on television and video games very well, and I think we are seeing the results of some of that stuff already in our youth of today.  Very sad.

Endtimesgal, good ideas! We mustn't forget about the play acting and the dress up...
Going to add your suggestions, next post, to the list.

I just thought of whole, new sets of encyclopedias for reference... No doubt it would soon need to be re written but there has to be a point of reference.  :)
Let's assume we won't be able to go online for references and have some on hand for ages about 10 -18+
