All right I hope you have learned about passive solar design.
Just keep in mind that east may be west after the event so look to the sun the principles will be the same.

For the next bit of research we go to edible landscaping.

The 1st link is to the book that I found that started me on the road in this process.

Here are some links for info on the net

Over Easter Sunday brunch, I had the thought of a real back yard well. Like they use to use in the old days (maybe still do in some rural areas). You know, bucket drawn...  Any one know how to accomplish this? And here is a question: Should we plant that edible garden now? or wait until after the earth calms down? Storing a seed bank..

Happy Easter :D

Let us hope that there are NOT any "lost arts" but merely temporarily forgotten/disused... Better yet, if we are to suddenly to be evolved to exist in the future, then we had better already be honing our  skills and awareness.   Simple concepts such as making new use of refuse to produce shelter, fuel, air & water are not new.  However,, heightened awareness will come in handy to prepare properly.

OK Iwill shuddap now... 1st post.  :)
there is nothing as pure as a mix of faith and pure imagination :D

Billy, It is always a great time to plant a garden, nothing like fresh produce.
However the edible landscaping that I was talking about should be planted whereever your safe area is goung to be, it would not make sense to plant then move hundreds of miles away when the time comes.

It would make sense to plant now some fruit and nut trees take years to produce, last year I planted a peach tree in the fall and had 4 peaches the first year this year I have 25 peaches growing.

Also plan your planting for diversity and harvest times.

I get Figs through out the summer, Plums mid May to mid June, Peaches July, Apples mid August to mid September, and Pecans after that.

Anyway here are some links to wells

Boonie welcome,

By lost arts I'm referring to how things were done before electricity.

How many people know how to forge steel with a wood forge and anvil?

Many people can sew, but how many can spin thread or yarn?

http://www.handspinning.com/lollipops/spininst.htm

http://www.gardengirltv.com/how-to-hand-spin-wool.html

http://www.newenglandsimpleliving.com/spinningcottonhandspindle.html

So that is why I started this topic.

I would encourage everyone to post a few links for us on things that may be considered "Lost Arts" the more minds the better.

If someone is not interested in that topic then they could move on to the next, but just trying to make sure we are all prepared.

Thanks, Bob

Thanks for  the clarification Bob.   That said, if you haven't seen these you MUST!  http://www.youtube.com/user/GREENPOWERSCIENCE  I recently started amazing kids and adults with a Fresnel lens (versus a large 5lb chunk of glass lens it runs circles around!) to start a campfire.   That's just the tip of the iceberg - and they weigh next to nothing!   8)
